So I was wondering if only the game language counts for the Masuda method. I have two copies of pokemon, X and Y. Version X I play in English, version Y I play in Spanish. If I transfer over a Spanish pokemon and use it to breed, do I get the Masuda 5x shiny chance? I'm assuming if it has the SPA black tag then it counts, even if my actual region is USA. Can anyone confirm? I've already transferred over and started breeding from my Spanish game. The SPA black tag is indeed there, and they do have increased compatibility. However... when I was transferring pokemon through the GTS, the location of my Spanish game shows the 3DS region.

Does it have a foreign tag? If Y, it's foreign. It uses your 3ds region for trading BECAUSE THATS WHERE YOU ARE. Just because you have a Mexican DS doesn't mean you get routed all the way to a Mexican hub from Mongolia. It's going to trade within your region.
If it were as simple as changing your DS region to get foreign pokemon dont you think we'd all be all over that already? Shit, I swear some of you kids can't think.

I'm actually wondering this too. Do the black tags indicate pokemon eligible for masuda? Like, I got a pokemon from a German friend playing on a German system, but he's playing in English so it doesn't have the language tag on it. Does that mean I can't masuda with it? Or if I get, say, a Japanese-tagged pokemon from an American 3DS playing the game in Japanese, will it count? I was under the impression it was based on your 3DS and not the game but now I'm not sure.

I think I know a way to definitively test. I'll put up a pokemon on the GTS from my Spanish game. I then search for it using my English game with the filter "Only pokemon from a different region." If it appears, then it's confirmed foreign.

He basically asked if his foreign SPA tagged pokemon won't work because he isn't in Spain/Mexico or whatever country he's in. That's like me getting a JPN pokemon off the GTS and asking if it'll work because it's now on an English cart and I'm not standing in Tokyo.
Come the fuck on. Use your head.

Let's say I have the disposable time and income to waste on dedicating a game to masuda-ing.
Would I need to order a 3DS from another region, and the game from that same region? Or would I only need to buy a local game and play it in a different language?
And if I buy a foreign 3DS and foreign game and choose "English" as the language option, would that mean I can't masuda with pokemon from that game?
I was under the impression that the system, game, AND language need to be different.

>>15398102 That's not what he's saying at all though. Using your example, he's asking if it matters if that JPN pokemon from the GTS is ACTUALLY from Japan or a Japanese system.

>>15398416 It would blow big donkey chunks if you got a JPN tagged pokemon that didn't work with Masuda, as you would have NO WAY of telling. This is the main reason why I'm 98% sure it's simply based on game language.
So now I just transfer 2 ENG breeders to my SPA game, breed out a perfect IV offspring, transfer it back to my ENG game and Masuda the fuck out of it.

okay, this thread seems to contradict itself, I'm going to try and put this mess together since y'all are needlessly hostile. so lets use xatu and sigilyph for example English Xatu from NA game/console + English Sigilyph from NA game/console = CANNOT Masuda English Xatu from NA game/console + Jap Tagged Sigilyph from NA game/console [NA game but with language set to japanese/NA console region set to japan] = CANNOT Masuda English Xatu from NA game/console + Jap Sigilyph from JP game/console = CAN Masuda Is that right?

Seeing as the carts aren't actually region locked I presume it must be based on language.
