OU is the standard metagame, the tier that all others are built around.

Ubers is for Pokemon that are too powerful for OU, and the lower tiers are for Pokemon that aren't used enough/are too weak for OU.

I rape Mega Gengars with Diggersby on showdown. People always forget I have normal typing and go for shadow ball.
Then they also forget they don't have levitate, and one earthquake will do them in. At first I thought I was just playing bad people,

All that happens in nintendo is that the Cover/Event legendaries get banned in online play, so the meta is the best of everything else, which ends up being pretty close to what smogon has+some ubers stuffs and minus some legendary pokemon used as counters.

I'm not saying doubles as a format isn't balanced because it's doubles. I'm saying that even doubles barely gets balanced enough because GF lacks actual playtesters and evolving banlist to keep certain things in check, then doesn't even bother to set up better rules and balancing for the format THE MOST PEOPLE play.

Main reason doubles is even played often is because it's the official VGC format. And it isn't even the official VGC format because it's 'more skilled', it's the official VGC format because it's a faster format that lets them fit better into time constraints.

VGC is actually really bad setup from a competitive standpoint because rounds are single games instead of matches, and it's single elimination, so something like a single crit could be the difference between you making it to the finals or getting NOTHING.

That's fair enough. I honestly wish GF did have active balancing going on more, or at least tried to balance moves for all formats.

Like look at entry hazards: they continually have been making those better and better to try and make one that would be used in doubles, and have created 2 that basically warp the metagame in 6v6 singles, while only one of those two is possibly going to be viable in doubles.

We already have team preview, and doubles only uses 4 of the 6 pokemon on a team. For pokemon, it would be completely justified to have a best 2 of 3 format because of those. It also isn't like a pair of competent players aren't going to see most of each others teams and could push to keep information hidden; this is something that is done in other games with match formats.

Well, it's not that they only want it to accommodate a lot of people, it's more to accommodate a standardized round size.

In regionals, it's 15 minute rounds with single game. In nationals and worlds it's 15 minutes games, best 2 of 3 for 1 hour rounds, generally not wanting to go over 10 rounds, so they can compress it into a single day, rather than doing 2 day events to accomodate for double length rounds.

because they want random matches to be over fast, so you don't tie someone up who wanted just a quick game. 6v6 is a very slow and thought intensive format, which isn't too great for random matches or tournaments.

Basically, 6v6 is the Goat Control of Pokemon.

I guess it's the same thing, but you can't do it with randoms, which is something that should be aloud. I wouldn't mind options for 3v3 singles, 6v6 singles, and 4v4 doubles. Maybe even some 6v6 and/or 3v3 Rotation and Triples. They have all these modes of play in-game, so why not online?

But if 6v6 is made an option alongside 3v3 and 4v4 doubles, it's typically assumed you have the time for that kind of shit. Don't really see why this is a hard concept for Nintendo to grasp. Not everyone is trying to play official tournament formats.

Time. In VGC, it makes it quite hard for new players to the tier - the ev spreads are already bananas (like, really unintuitive, rarely 252/252/4) so expecting people to know what survives what after X hits with Y, then passive, then potential spread moves, wide guard abuses, fake out... the you add on the fact people have to predict what their opponent will use and it's not a friendly tier to get into. It also gets quite heated at events sometimes as, unlike smogon singles, VGC can actually make you win tangiable shit like free holidays and money. I wish people didn't look down on it so much, as if 4v4 doubles is somehow inferior to 6v6 singles. I can't even stand singles any more, the reliance on OHKOs assisted by entry hazard damage is such a boring game to play and the dominance of ideas like speed creep/sweepers seems crazy. Different strokes I guess.

The game is fun when played in multiple ways, including competitive with tier separations or playing just with pokemon you like. Smogon is also good because it helps new players better understand the game and what makes good or bad teams and pokemon. When you understand the game like that it allows you to better handle pokemon, including lower tier ones or just the ones you like. If you think otherwise you're a just a filthy casual who can't into strategy and you need to get the fuck out because you obviously don't belong here.
