I didn't play Black/White, was it this bad then too, or has it always been like this or something? 'Cus I don't remember the antagonist team(s) being this batshit retarded. I mean, they've been pretty fucking stupid, but this just takes it to a whole new level.

At least the lift key is explainable with a bit of mental gymnastics. He's a pissed off grunt who's simply fed up with Team Rocket. He knows he's in an awkward position where he can't quit or rebel against them so he just gives Red the key knowing that's his one chance to finally do some sort of damage. He "drops" it to keep that act of betrayal from looking too obvious.

Because I understand that this is a children's game, and in recent years there has been an undeniable increase in "hand holding". When things like this are spoken out in movies/parodies, I understand them. Whether it be through tone of voice or something else.

For this though, I see too many other realistic options to be able to say "they must obviously be referencing/parodying gens 1 and 2."

This is just typical JRPG fanfare. It happens a lot. It's not even the first time they've done this joke in Pokemon. I can't comprehend what part of you is crying out against hAnDhOlDinG but this is just having fun. No, the kids aren't doomed because Pokemon decided to make things humorous instead of leaving kids to run around aimlessly in a desert looking for a key.

The desert area would've been a lot better if it was less annoying randomized wind and more of a challenge of finding something to progress.
It's not like people weren't going to comb it with the dowser anyway, I found the key before I even fought the grunt.
