Obviously it is an evolution. One that actually takes thousands or millions of years to happen! I bet the pokedex entry will even mention the fact that it is just a reaaaally old Carbink.

Going with how diamonds work... it could simply require it to level up while being afflicted by a binding move while you have a Heatran and a Dialgia in your party? Otherwise it will simply be a one-off Pokemon.

Its dex entry actually does mention it's slept underground for hundreds of millions of years. Carbon (Carbink) compresses into Diamond (Diancie) after being subjected to extreme pressure for similar timespans. Diancie is just that: an ancient, hyper dense and super powered Carbink mutation formed over almost a billion years in heat and pressure.

That's got to be tough on the poor thing's mind. :(

Already tested and confirmed not to work. It's obvious they're related in some way, but Diancie wouldn't be special if you could just evolve Carbinks into it super easy.
