>>15471376That's not really a fair comparison. That was, as you say, just a gimmick. Seasons are more comparable to day/night, but on a much broader scale.
You can't do anything new with Pokémon following you, but with seasons?
Let's make a new bear species that, when you encounter it in the wild during winter, is in a hibernation forme.
Let's make a Grass type that, like Sawsbuck, changes with the season, but unlike it, keeps its forme when you catch it and has a secondary typing to match what season you caught it in. Grass/Ice winter, Grass/Dark fall, etc.
Let's have a species of bird Pokémon that is only available on the north part of the map during one part of the year, and then it flies south during the next part of the year.
There is a LOT of potential there, there really is, and yes, it does come with the risk of "oh fuck I have to wait X weeks/months to get Y?", but at the same time, it could be so worth it to get the kind of creative and unique things that come with having the concept of seasons in the game.
... but, then, day/night has barely been touched on since its introduction, so this kind of dream - even if seasons do return - is probably just a pipe dream.
