Some people, well me, change their 3DS's date for a range of different games. I change mine frequently for Animal Crossing New Leaf (even though you can change it in-game) and Pokemon. But usually it's just a few days, months and not often years. But having it 13+ years difference? You might want to be careful, most of the bad eggs seem to be from the early 2000's in XY.

See, what happens is that you'll get an egg. This egg is basically a time bomb. It'll just look like an ordinary egg, but will steadily come closer and closer to hatching regardless of how many steps you take or if you're holding it at all. As soon as it hatches, a terrible pixelated glitch will arise from the shelled remains of the egg and brick your entire system. Everything you have on it will be eradicated, and the virus will also spread to your SD memory as well. You'll have nothing left, and at the end of the day you'll be forced to purchase another system and another Pokemon copy entirely.

Be very cautious, OP. It could happen to any of us.
