It's always hit-or-miss. Even with just 151, some were going to look like shit, some were going to be awesome, and a few were just going to look weird. And it's never a sure thing which designs will stick and which won't.
With subsequent generations having to find new looks, there are going to be more designs that are just dead on arrival.
