Since Frost Breath's BP got buffed from 40 to 60 and Ice Beam got bumped down to 90BP, Frost Breath is pretty much an Ice Beam that ignores defense boosts. Why even use Ice Beam anymore?

Ice Beam is a TM and has better distribution

A crit from Ice Beam does more damage

Defense boosts are hardly used.

Frost Breath has shit accuracy and basically nobody learns it, while everyone learns Ice Beam.

Well, Ice Beam still has the chance, albeit minor, of a crit of its own or a freeze

But yeah, Frost Breath is a pretty good alternative if you're concerned with Calm Mind, etc

They should have given it the freeze chance just like Ice Beam, it'd give Ice Types themselves a bit more usage.

Arguably not, when its coupled with a 10% accuracy drop and comes without the minor chance of a freeze or higher damage from a crit

Ignoring defence boosts is nice, but definitely a niche

Well considering crits this gen deal 1.5x damage instead of 2x (the compensation is that crit rate is increased), I'm not sure if losing 10% accuracy makes up for the fact that there's not a lot of people that would boost Sp.Def unless they're a Calm Mind user

Common enough to justify a 1/10 miss chance on an otherwise perfect accuracy move?

Dont get me wrong, I think Frost Breath is viable, certainly, but I wouldn't run it over Ice Beam unless I had a specific pokemon to counter.

I thought they were a cool concept for moves when they were introduced but just too weak.

Wish Storm Throw was more widespread though, since Frost Breath is basically only Ice types.
