What is it that makes you pick the starter you do?

Personally, I just roll with water types every time. No matter if they look good or bad or how their stats are, it's just a tradition of mine.

I choose out my team beforehand on my 1st playthrough and see which starter will fit the best.
1.Charizard
2.Feraligatr
3.Blaziken

I picked fire at lot at first, then water for cuteness... and finally chespin because I never initially picked grass and he was pretty cool and underrated (amoung my circles at least)

I picked water in every gen except gen 4 because Torterra is godlike. Then I picked Empoleon on my second playthrough anyway.

Gen 2: Chikorita because I was a child and remember picking venusaur was easymode in gen 1 so I assumed it was the same this gen
Gen 3: Trecko because Grovyle in the anime is a fucking boss
Gen 4: Piplup because I assumed it would evolve into a water flying type and thought this would solve the need fr a fly noob
Gen 5: Pignite because I wanted to box that piece of sht
Gen 6: Froakie because frogs are cool

Gen 2: Chikorita (my first pokemon game was Gold and I still love the little dinosaur)
Gen 3: Mudkip or Torchic? Always a hard choice.
Gen 4: Piplup
Gen 5: Oshawott is the most adorable thing ever.
Gen 6: Froakie has some rockin' bubbles, man.
