But that way, people who want to have fun battles with game-raised mons can do so without feeling obligated to autistically super-breed and minmax every stat for maximum perfection just to have a chance to win, while fans of the tactical gameplay don't feel obliged to waste their time grinding against an RNG for hours at a go just to try out a new team.
Yes, I know this is what simulators are for, but they're just not the same as the real gameplay experience. They look like shit for one, their userbase is more limited for another, you have to be sitting at your computer to use them for a third, etc.
Plus, Nintendo might have a shot at scooping up part of the "I only play sims" portion of the fanbase and making some money.
Win/win/win.
I know my favorite thing about Stadium, despite the limitations, was rental battles, and I was extremely disappointed when they were removed from future games.
