Okay so are mega evolutions just pretty much awesome in every way or is there any reason not to mega evolve? Like I really thought they would balance this shit, but it pretty much just makes any pokemon you use it with GOAT, at least as far as I can tell.

I mean it raises their stats by like 100 points.

I want some god damn balance or something.

There is absolutely no reason to use Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Alakazam, and Mega Garchomp over their original iterations with an item, among others.

A lot of the megas are worse than their original using an item.

Some of them are just plain bad.

A few are nice and balanced, but only because they're from under-whelming base pokemon.

Only a couple are stupid broken.

Some mons like Alakazam prefer to have a focus sash or a life orb rather than a mega evolution. Some mons like Garchomp prefer to have a choice Scarf or Band rather than a mega evolution. Some mons like every defensive mega evolution prefer to have Leftovers.
There are exactly 2 megas that are better in every possible way: Mega Mawile and Mega Kangaskhan.

Base stats don't fucking matter, it's how they're distributed. Mega Garchomp has 700 BST but with his shit speed it's all useless.

how is mega hera compared to normal hera? skill link seems like itd be a lot of fun to use (particularly with Pin Missile), but guts hera seems pretty good (plus mega hera looks stupid)

You know what else is fucked up?
I spend the entire game training a riolu to get a fucking Lucario, under the impression that I had a pretty rare pokemon.

mega banette is better than regular banette. there is also the argument that venusaur's mega is useful now that sun is less abusable, working well with the added ability and mitigating the lack of leftovers with giga drain, leech seed and synthesis. mega aggron is also a great wall too.
