It ain't worse, it's just that you have to use it intelligently.
You can get ONE mega-sweep (since you keep your regular speed on the turn you transform) before your speed goes down (by 10).
If you manage to get your opponent's last sweeper on that turn, you don't have to worry about the speed anymore.
