There were only two gyms which were the 7th and 8th, that required you to go over water to get to them.

And when you went to Sootopolis, you weren't even touching the water with the Tentacools in such because you were underwater with Dive most of the time.

Unless you actually roamed around Granite Cave and not leave after you found Steven or explored all the floors more than once for some kind of thril, Sableye barely ever appeared

The hardest game in the franchise is Emerald and that's including post-game.

Platinum's Battle Frontier was even worse. I can't believe someone at GameFreak got away with getting the idea of a facility where you choose the type you want to go up against into the game.

A monotype can't, and will never be, a real challenge.
Same goes with E4, the only difficulty is that you have to beat them consecutively.
I still enjoy Gym battles, but since Red I never thought gym battles were hard. Except for Brock with Charmender. That shit was difficult

However, Meganium actually wasn't as shit as you think it was in G/S and Torterra was very useable in-game.
