Dark failed miserably in the gen it was introduced as well. Give it time.

Some of them like Klefki are good, and it was a needed buff for many forgotten mons like Granbull and Mr. Mime.

After thinking about it, this could just as easily turn into a RestTalk set. It might even be better as that since it'd help Clefable shrug off nasty statuses like Toxic.

If that was the case, Pokemon like Claydol and Sableye would've been retconned into Fairy types. The only "cosmic" fairies I can think of is the Clefairy line, which is only three Pokemon out of the dozens of fairy types in the game.

Dark didn't need the SUPER NERF at all

Poison and Steel are more defensive types than anything else, and even giving them strength over something new doesn't fix that EXCEEDINGLY few of them have the stats to act on offense. And people complained that dragon type was broken.

Laverre seems to have absolutely no connection with the Fairy type at all either in its design or lore, having the surrounding areas filled with more Poison and Dark types than anything. Plus, there's also the matter of Valerie's Gym being a near carbon copy of Saffron City's, implying a sudden change in development.

Anistar, on the other hand, seems to have been build from the ground up to house a Cosmic type. The Sundial which crashed from space and resists all manner of human analysis, the mix of futurism and contemporary styles in the town architecture, and Olympia and her Gym, which can only be said to harbor only the most tangential connection to the Psychic typing.

Togekiss honestly doesn't gain much from the typing.

In fact, I think it would've been better off Normal/Flying.

Azumarill also really didn't get better because of fairy, it got better because of Belly Drum/Aqua Jet.

they were overly cautious with them. i don't think they should be attackers, their typing is perfect for stalling, but none of their stats suit it. klefki is a good example of a well executed fairy. it's a brilliant prankster and it's type accentuates this role. togekiss is another good example of a fat pokemon with a niche (paraflinch) that fits the typage. they are seemingly concious in their decision to give the type to annoyers/utility pokemon rather than sweepers. mawile and azumarill are the only examples of frighteningly strong fairies and they are both slow. granbull is slow too. i don't think we'll ever see a simple fast special sweeping fairy unless it's dual typing makes it sensible. (i.e. fire/fairy, electric/fairy, ice/fairy)

there is a method to gamefreaks madness

both benefit from the type. azumarill gained a weakness to poison in exchange for a immunity to dragon, resistance to dark and fighting, and a secondary stab which hits dark, fighting, and dragon super effectively. that is unquestionably a huge gain. the decrease from resisting steel to being damaged neutrally is not a detractor.

togekiss lost an immunity to ghost in exchange for an immunity to dragon, and a resistance to dark and fighting. gaining a weakness to poison and steel is worth that.

Could potentially work. I'm mostly worried about Clefable being taken down by two or three powerful shots, though Cosmic Power might be a more interesting choice than Calm Mind. Moon Blast won't be too strong, but it'll at least hit the oddball Dark Types fairly hard.

Moonlight's a bit iffy with the way weather teams are and its limited PP really hurts Clefable's staying power. Wish is the nicer option, though I run Protect with it to have a guaranteed recovery option.

Go on ahead and test it out, though. It's always fun to try out new sets.

I did an Unaware Clefable back in Gen 5 and it was surprisingly good at holding it's weight.

With the new nerfs to crits it should be even better.

Toxic will ruin it though, and Steel is an even worse nemesis than before.

I'm running a Gliscor with taunt and baton pass to begin with. And my Talonflame has Will o Wisp, heck, a lot of my pokemon can effectively cripple your chomp, he's not 1v1 just like Azumarill.

I would say Garchomp is spending much more time with +2 than Azumarill at +6. Not to mention +6 Aqua Jet isn't even a guaranteed OHKO.

Gamefreak didn't need to introduce Dark or Steel types, they just needed to fix Ghost and Bug types.

They add Dark and make Psychics underpowered
They add Steel and doom Poison to irrelevancy
Ice is also doomed to irrelevancy because it's main use was as a Dragon counter and this is now not exclusive

Now they add Fairies, fucking over Dark types.
Dragon's still remain immensely powerful
They balance Steel, but Poison still remains overshadowed by Steel
Suddenly Ghosts are obscenely powerful.

If Gamefreak had just balanced Ice, Bug and Ghost from the start properly, they wouldn't have had to do any of this shit.

Most dragons still get killed by revenge killers than fairies. Not even Togekiss can "counter" a Garchomp when half of them run Stone Edge.

Fairy is doing its job.
It's make Dragon less overpowering, hurting the power of fighting and Dark, and giving Poison and Steel something to do offensively.
Fairy also has a decent number of usable members for a new type with Sylvion, Klefki, M-Mawile, M-Gardavior and Azumarril seeing a decent amount of use, and I'm sure Prankster Whimsicott will be even more annoying now that it laughs off Dragon type attacks. Dragons cant go using Outrage until they know the enemys fairy is KO'd

It's not just what's common now, it's how no matter how the metagame shifts, these two (potentially three) will still be good.
Azumarill can deal with a lot of shit. I mean like, a LOT of shit. If Mega Blaziken gets banned, it'll still be here to deal with dragons. If those somehow all get banned, it can still out-priority Scizor and deal with the steel types who would be running amok at that point using neutral waterfall on anything not named Scizor. If we somehow get weather wars v2, it's fantastic in rain teams. If we shift to all bulky attackers, Azumarill is bulky and attacker as fuck. If we shift to hyper offense, there's a +6 Aqua Jet coming your way.

Azumarill basically can't lose usage this gen no matter what.

And then a Jirachi who only gets better with more resistances, less weaknesses, and the same versatility (it still has shit like calm mind, paralysis just helped a lot) would have no chance of dropping to BL or UU.

Yea, Kiss is a much better answer to chomp, especially since Chomp needs to predict to hit it on the switch, unlike against Azu (EQ is a strong STAB move so its much more spammable than an unSTAB Stone Edge.)

Yes, and that is the turn that Azumarill is belly drumming.

Now you have to either eat a +6 aqua jet or switch something else in to take a +6 aqua jet (and then probably another on the next turn)

There's wifi at the public library, which is within walking distance, though I don't feel compelled to head out just for the sake of playing Pokemon online. I did use that wifi to download Animal Crossing: New Leaf, though. Took an hour and a half, but well worth the wait.

My prediction is that stall has a serious chance of making a comeback in gen 6. But this all depends on how popular defog gets. Aegislash (or Doublade if Smogon bans it), Trevenant, and Gourgeist are amazing spinblockers. Avalugg also seems to be much better than I initially thought. Not even CB Azumarill can 2HKO it with Choice Band, and after one curse, it is practically unstoppable by physical attackers.
