Which fire type would be better for comp on an offensive team, Infernape or Talonflame? I have heard much praise for Talonflame, but is it really going to be a replacer for any of the existing top tier fires?

Well, Infernape is pretty much beaten out by Kicken Mcnuggets/KFC/ whatever we're calling it now, plus we can't get ahold of the flaming monkey until next month.
From my own experience, Gale Wings can get absolutely nasty, such as Priority roost, in case an enemy attempts to hit Talonflame with rocks, and Priority Brave Bird mows down anything you need it to, really.

So, TL;DR, I'd suggest the bird.

talonflame is going to be ou largely in spite of it's fire typing not because of it.

the coverage is nice but rocks tear it apart. i'm hoping the hype dies once people realize that rocks are as good as ever.
