Platinum and HG/SS are the same speed but Gen 4 is still slow as balls compared to the rest.

This would be true except battles in Gen 4 run at 30fps while battles in Gen 5 run at 60fps

i came in at around original gold/silver and i even replayed red blue and yellow but i just feel like platinum had something special. it was a great eye in a perfect storm that is pokemon

I don't think this is true. Based on recently going back to SoulSilver it's mostly the text speed, fourth gen fast speed is roughly equivalent to fifth gen medium speed.

Emerald is still my favorite due to having the best battle frontier, but Platinum HG/SS would definitely be my favorites otherwise.

I really can't go back to the pre-gen 6 breeding mechanics though.
