You mean another type that had a handful of useful resistances that could've easily been buffed just by having a couple types stop resisting it?
The things that they tried to do with fairy types could've easily been solved with a few tweaks to the type chart as it was.
They didn't even try to be creative with it. They practically said that "fairy good against these types, also resists those same types."
