Seriously can someone explain breeding for me.

I have a modest Bulbasaur with perfect special attack (according to guy in Kiolone Pokecenter) and breeding it with a Ditto with perfect IV in HP and speed (according to guy in Pokecenter and online IV calculator).
I gave Bulbasaur the everstone and Ditto the destiny knot but the offspring just turns out like the original Bulbasaur and his IV's in HP and speed are no different whatsoever.

It's not guaranteed. It has a CHANCE to pass down these stats. The more stats you double up on the easier it gets.

The Destiny Knot chooses 5 of the 12 total IVs, and it can pick the same IV from both parents, in which chase it goes with the higher one.

So it can pick Bulbasaur's Atk, Def and SpD, and Ditto's Atk and Def and continually churn out shit.

With destiny knot you are guaranteed the a total of 5 of the 12 total stats will be passed down, but its random which 5 are chosen.

You have a 5/12 chance for the HP to be passed down. A 4/12 chance for the second stat. A 3/12 for the last stat. Since you're doing it very inefficiently you have about a 3% chance to get all the stats passed down to a single offspring.

Scratch that, you have 5/12, 4/11, and 3/10.

I assumed that it could pick from the same stat twice from the same Pokemon, which I don't think it does.

It's actually about a 4.5% chance.

I think it's 5/12*4/10*3/8 which is 1/16, or 6.25%.

I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. You can't choose the same stat twice from both parents.

With Destiny Knot, 1 stat is random (1/6) and the 5 other stats are picked from a parent (1/2 chance each).

This means that if you have 3 stats to pass down there is 3/6 that an irrelevant stat is left off and 1/2 that the correct parent is picked 3 times. 3/6*1/2*1/2*1/2 = 1 chance in 16 of having the 3 right IVs.

If you hatch a 2 perfect IV bulbasaur you should replace a pokemon in the daycare too.

The odds are a little bit better then that though the sixth uninherited stat has 1/32 of being randomly perfect.

Double up on stats.

Breed until you get a bulbasaur with special attack and one of the ditto stats and use that to breed with ditto. Use every opportunity to double on stats. That gives you better odds of passing down the stats you want.

You should try getting a 3 IV ditto and a safari Ivysaur to make it faster at first.

Try to cover all 5 needed stats whenever possible.

It took me around 2-3 hours to hatch a 2 perfect larvesta yesterday.

Yes, also if you get a bulbasaur of the opposing sex that's as good as a ditto you should replace him too to have more eggs faster.

Just got a female with HP and special attack. Should I replace Bulbasaur or the Ditto because I still need Ditto's speed but don't need the male Bulbasaur's special attack because that's also on the female now.

That's demonstrably not true. Just take two Pokemon with the same five IVs and you'll still end up with a few three IV Pokemon. The only way it makes sense is if the Destiny Knot can chose the same IV twice.

As I said always try to cover as many stats as possible. If you have HP and S Atk breeding it with a Def/SDef/Speed ditto.

Might as well use this thread.

I'm a bit confused about Destiny Knot.
I have two scenarios in my head on how it works.

1) The baby pokemon looks at it six stats. Now it takes 5 out of those (for example all but HP). Then it's random whether it inherits this stat from the father or the mother.

2) The mechanic is so that destiny knot lets the pokemon double-dip, meaning it could for example select:
Father HP
Mother HP
Father DEF
Mother SPATK
Mother SPEED

Now since it selected two HP ones it only picks one of those at random, meaning one of the destiny knot picks was "wasted".

I'm not sure whether anyone understands what I'm trying to get at (my English isn't good enough to describe it probably), but hopefully someone can explain it all to me

Well maybe I should have more carefully read some of the later replies.

So it seems that destiny knot can indeed double-dip, which I suspected to be the case after my observations when I bred 3 pokemon to 5 IVs.

Is there an easy way to calculate odds for all situations though?
Right now for example my parents look like this:
Father: HP | ATK | SPD | SPE - Everstone - male
Mother: HP | ATK | DEF | SPA | SPD - Destiny Knot - female

What are the odds of the baby getting HP | ATK | DEF | SPD | SPE ?

Destiny Knot doesn't "double-dip". It chooses 5 random stats between both parents without repeats to inherit. It's not hard to figure out. It could end up with a shitty IV because A. It didn't inherit that one stat from either parent (remember ir=t inherits five out of six) or B. It inherits the right stat from the wring parent (ie. Father has 31 in Att, mother has 4 in Att, baby inherits from mother.
