How did Smealum manage to unlock never before seen content? All the news report says he hacked them, but how is that possible considering that fact that the 3DS hasn't been hacked yet? or has it?

He didn't "hack" it. They just say that because they're not that very technologically competent.

Ram tells the CPU what to do. He changed what the RAM told the CPU during wild encounters. Just by changing an encounter number. He physically did it.

He made the 3DS use another RAM, which was monitored by an external software. So he could change the values in the RAM and send 'em back to the 3DS.
It's like, I don't know, let's say the 3DS is a restaurant and you want to serve shit to a customer, but you can't get in. Then you make the kitchen shut down and the restaurant starts ordering food from the kitchen on the other side of the road. You go in there and change the food into shit, and the customer in the locked restaurant gets the shit

If you give me 3 months and throw me into Mexico not knowing spanish, 3 months later, I won't just still be exactly the same.

He's the person who happens to be working on hacking the 3DS. His long term goals include a 3DS CFW ala the PSP.

I'm not sure how you don't get how these things work. There has to be someone who hacks it first, the first person with a hacked PSP didn't just download the latest CFW off pspisos.com or some shit

Apparently the 3DS uses the same encrypting that alot of banks use for security (for piracy prevention).

So it's most likely not that.

It's not the same kind, GBAtemp just over-exaggerates while trying to explain it and that's one of the easiest ways of telling people who keep spamming their forums with "3DS EMULATOR WHERE" to fuck off because hacking new hardware which is actually new is hard work compared to hacking a double gamecube when you already had the single gamecube hacked.

It's just because the 3DS actually had some security measures on it, and nobody cared enough about DSiware to hack the DSi.

It's still a bitch to try to get around with Nintendo's firmware updates though, which I personally enjoy.

Smealum's already shown that he can get unsigned code to run on a retail 3DS and has written a good bit of kickass homebrew for the NDS. I don't know exactly what he did here, but it's obviously within his abilities to do this.

There is a flashcart for 3ds, and smealum actually has a CFW running on the 3ds without the flashcart.

Source please. CFW is far different than exploiting the stock firmware to run custom code and I haven't seen anything saying he created any form of a CFW.
