Let's assume that there's an ability, we shall call it "Bomb Safety" for now, that prevents the user from being KO'd or damaged by their own Explosion or Self-Destruct (everyone else around still takes Explosion/Self-Destruct damage as usual), but they must recharge for one turn as though they used Hyper Beam. The user is still affected normally by Self-Destructs and Explosions used by other pokemon.
Could it, in any way, possibly be useful depending on what kind of pokemon gets it, or would the ability plain simply be shit?
