I liked his BW1 incarnation
I don't like how "maturing" in BW2 turned him entirely useless, along with every single other Gen 5 gym leader.
Seriously that final showdown in BW1 was fantastic when the gym leaders all rushed in and fought alongside you. Cheren can barely be assed to bother with them this time, just leading them to you sort of and not even fighting alongside you with his actual team, but a bunch of gym rental dipshits.
