Daily reminder that Crystal is the worst selling core series Pokémon game in history, though it's not because it necessarily sucked compared to Gold and Silver. Also, don't forget the Japanese version's exclusive stuff, which unfortunately flopped.

Pokémon Mobile System GB and all that had to do with it. Wireless battles and trades, GTS-like facility, national player achievements rank, retro Vs. Recorder (battles could be transferred and watched on Japanese Stadium 2), the whole of Battle Tower was focused around wireless multiplayer, etc.

I had some weirdly translated japanese version of the game. I didn't know this was exclusive since in my game there was a battle tower and a cell phone, what other was exclusive?

The fad just died off at that point. This was also around the time the fledgling Pokémon fanbase split, with a huge chunk of players dropping off(and later rejoining during Gen IV, V, VI or not coming back at all)

It was also the end of the fad surrounding the non-game media like the anime, movies and merchandise like the trading cards.

I still remember saying why should I get a second version of the same game? Same thing that kept me from getting yellow, it wasn't until Emerald that I tried picking up the third version and now it's routine. Still sad I missed out on yellow and crystal though (I did play yellow on an emulator around that time though, but never crystal)
