If you have someone's friend code attached to your 3ds they will show up on your friends list in game whenever they play any copy or save file of X or Y. I have someone on mine that routinely switches between 2 copies of the game and shows up each time as a different character but under the safari they both show up as the same 3ds profile ID name. Took me forever to figure it out I thought something odd had happened to me at first until I checked it in friend safari.

Not sure about whatever OPs going on about but sometimes as soon as I connect to the internet I get a request for battle and I always accept. Afterwards I check their profile and its also blank like OPs, no Pokemon in amie or anything. This thread did kind of spook me though.
