So about a week ago I floated the idea around here of setting up a pokemon league with people from around these parts. Coming back with something (only slightly) more formal now. Let's start a discussion about this if you're interested, and shoot me an email so I can get an idea of number of interested people and see if it is worth putting this together.
I will copy paste the text from the attached image below:
/vp/ POKEMON LEAGUE
Pokemon league - Tournament style, single player, more true to the anime with more relaxed rules
Pokemon league - Tournament style, single player, recognised GF series rules
Elite Four + Champion - We could host our own style of Elite four, with somewhat regular rotation of the E4, and regular rotation of the champion
Gym leaders - Have any willing trainer (+friends to house the gym if desired) run a pokemon gym. Anyone who wins earns a badge. (Could feed into the pokemon league)
Duo Battles - Duos pair up and have battles
Team Battles - 3 and 5 man teams could team up to take each other in a league table type system
Ladder leagues - Ladder leagues where solo, duo and team participants could battle each other to move up and down the ladder.
Any other ideas? This could be something really cool.
Anyone interested? Could be fun as FUCK. Mail me at the address below to register interest :)

The only thing I worry about with this, is the kind of thing works much better usually on a forum where it's much easier to track registrations and all of that. This also tends to work better as more of a challenge if participants have to pre-define a team before challenging gyms and that so they have to cover types equally, not just load up on Fire moves for a bug gym for example.

I hope you are trying to run this over a simulator and not in game wifi, its totally unfeasible to do over wifi what with size issues and the such. A good way to organize this would to use Pokemon Online and make a channel on the main server. >>15669488 Set a sign up sheet with each type and people could sign up to be a gym leader for a region. Choose eight of those types for that region's gym's and if multiple people want to be a gym leader with the same type for that region, they battle for the position.
This is how you will set up your gym leaders for each region. Keep in mind that the teams of the gym leaders in each region have to be somewhat different to prevent monotony. An example would be the Kanto, Hoenn and Kalos Water type leader all using very similar rain teams. A way to avoid this is put restrictions on the Pokemon you can use as a gym leader in a certain region, as in Kanto water leader has to have mostly Kanto water types, etc.
If a leader wants to give their position up just have a sign up sheet for that position and do what you would do when we picked leaders originally.
To ensure the best is picked for Leaders and E4, every (Insert determined amount of time) people who want one of those positions can enter a tourny for that position against others and the winner faces the current Leader/E4 for their position.
Champions for each region would of course be the most recent person to beat the all leaders for that region, E4 and previous champion

Anonymous
>>15670010 Was actually going to apply for the Elite 4; you can still have it at an auto-level and still have it in the challenger's favour. It just comes down to team comp. Managing levels on the cart while battling on WiFi is just way more tedious then it's worth.
Anonymous
>>15669819 Another thing to prevent counter teaming by challengers who would just stack electric types to battle a Flying type gym leader would force challengers to register 12-18ish Pokemon that they are only allowed to use for the "season" of each league. Further restrictions could be placed on what those 12-18ish can consist of like BSTs to better simulate the limited resources a actual trainer at a Pokemon gym would have and to prevent teams from stagnating into typical OU copy and paste
TheAweDude !a2uDFch6hM
>>15670076 For E4, that would be a totally different style. Based on how I want to do it, E4 battles would all be flat, either 100 or 50, depending on what is easier to do.
>>15670092 B-But that is what players do in-game. And anyways, a flying GL can always run Gligar/Gliscor. Unfortunately, being a GL means almost everything is stacked against you. The challengers can see your team, you almost never have 6 Pokemon.

>>15670231 Right this is to make it so that challengers don't steam roll the gym leaders. There is no point in not making it a challenge. The Champion is the best trainer in any region so why wouldn't we try to emulate that as well with the /vp/ league
Anonymous
>>15670231 50 is the easiest as the game will out scale up or down to 50. Am I safe to assume E4 would have a full 6 like in rematches, or would it be something silly like 4 again like GF have been doing lately?
>>15670326 This is my biggest concern.
TheAweDude !a2uDFch6hM
>>15670326 We don't want people to steamroll through, that is why we have a level limit, but we also don't want to limit it to only the most autistic of Smogonfags. Ideally, a GL should be very hard for an unprepared person. Let's say you are a Flying Gym at position 4. The challenger has stacked Rock and Electric to try and counter you. You bring out your Roost Gligar and absolutely wall him.
In fact, I think that the best way to do it is for Gym Leaders to use the Bring-6-pick-4 rules from VGC. A GL makes a team of 6 (or 4 or 5 depending on their position) and in the battle, he chooses which 4 (or 3 or 2) to bring into battle. So, if the challenger has stacked Electric types against a Flying gym, out come the Tropius and Gligar. Whereas if the challenger has stacked Rock and Ice, the GL could instead use Skarmory and Hawlucha.
