So I picked up my old Pokémon Ruby again after about a decade and decided to not just level my starter this time. I'm now at the elite four with my highest pokemon only at level 48 and there's fuck all I can do to beat the elite four. Is this how all Pokémon games have been? Just having to resort to grindan after a while?

You should be able to defeat the Elite Four without grinding. I always use a team of 6 equally trained Pokemon and have never had to grind to defeat any in-game opponent. It might take some clever item usage, but it can be done.

I think I've taken down just about every single trainer there is in the game, and a lot of my pokemon are still stuck at around 43 or so. The elite four's pokemon just gets to hit first almost every time and take down at least more than half their health with attacks that aren't super effective. Am I just going to have to spam revives and healing potions or what?

Assuming you fought every trainer, your highest-levelled Pokemon should be well above 48, unless you trained six Pokemon equally like a faggot.

I usually keep one or two at a much higher level and blaze through the game that way, but keeping every pokemon about equal just makes the elite four a bitch. I've had a lot of fun actually being challenged by the gym leaders this way, but the elite four is just too much. Don't see myself getting through this without grindan or revive+heal spamming
