talonflame is metagame defining. this can make things dull and i could see gale wings getting banned in lower formats. i don't have the utmost experience with the new metagame though. i think aegislash is relatively overhyped. the release of the pokebank will put an infusion of older pokemon with old movepools and this will likely weaken these new pokemon by comparison.

Aegislash is predictable, but solid. I feel like he has some utility. He's not Uber material, he will drop a bit, but he'll probably stick around in OU.

Talonflame keeps surprising me. I love the fucker but I thought there's no way he can hack it. Time and again he proves his mettle, priority of that power goes a long fucking way, far beyond what you'd expect from 80~ Attack. He too will drop when the new mon smell wears off, but he to may well remain in OU. Even if his usage drops him down he'll still having a meaningful niche in standard play, which would just give him two tiers to tear it up in.

Right now I'm trying with Life Orb, he hits almost as hard but I can run Will o Wisp if needed, problem is that he dies too easily compared to banded one.

Talonflame is the definition of "high risk, high return". He is frail and suicidal, but he packs a punch. It's not predictable at all, that's the thing. It's completely 50/50 and it's complete luck. Will he SD or King's Shield? You have no way of knowing because he knows what you know what he knows what you know etc. etc. If you guess wrong, you lose.

That's the thing, he looks weak on paper and tears wholes in things in practice. I doubted his viability until he absolutely raped my unprepared teams several times. Priority Brave Bird means a lot more than you realize, even coming off of 81 Attack.

Because Priority BB is a good Speed Boost Blaze Chicken counter.

That will level out as Blaziken starts to see less use.

Fact is, with rocks on the field, if Talon fires off a BB, the next pokemon in will be ANY mon that can eat the BB and/or outprioritize him and kill him, since he's frail as fuck. He can't switch out because on the next switch-in rocks will just fucking kill him.

Which means he can perform a suitable role as a suicidal revenge killer and function as a good anti-blaziken counter.

if anything what he'll mainly do is see to it that SR sees more use.

Until you fight someone with half a brain who predicts your Taunt and attacks first turn. That's the main threat with Aegislash, you either predict correctly and he's a joke, or you're wrong and he destroys half your team. There's no middle ground.

I suppose, but then you don't have taunt and the two main moves (iron head, play rough) are susceptible to king's shield, while sucker punch relies on them attacking. Gliscor can wall all day with roost and poison heal, resisting sacred sword where mawile is just neutral to it.

You're still going to take some decent damage. But you're right, Gliscor is an excellent check to Aegislash, however, every Pokemon has it's checks and counters. Just because you can name a Pokemon that beats my Pokemon one-on-one doesn't automatically make my Pokemon NU. If Aegislash ends up being enough of a threat that every team is required to run a counter, people will start running counters to those counters and so on.

If you're having to run Shuckle just to counter one specific Pokemon, you can no longer claim that said Pokemon isn't a threat. I'm not claiming that Aegislash is some unstoppable Uber machine, I'm just saying that when everybody automatically considers how to handle him when building a team, he's obviously a significant factor in the metagame.

Furfrou is also pretty decent. Has some good options like Roar, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Cotton Guard, Return. Can take huge hits right after a switch in and after a single Cotton Guard can take almost everything from both Aegislash and Talonflame, for example Brave Bird after one cotton guard only deals 9%.

With max HP and after Intimidate, M-Mawile is doing okay in most circumstances to SD because she can tank the hit or will have forced the switch.

In those cases where she can't safely take a single hit from the opponent to SD, you shouldn't have switched her in anyway.

You don't have the speed to attack him first nor the bulk to take his EQ, and if he switches in after you, he doesn't get intimidated (nor does he die to Sucker Punch, if that's what you're thinking).

SD is a waste of move, substitute makes you much safer as you can actually OHKO garchomp with Play Rough if he doesn't kill you.

Plenty of things can handle it, but no one really appreciates it and I've been surprised by what falls to it. He's much more powerful than you'd expect just from the numbers, and in late-game he cleans up in a big way. The damage calcs don't lie.

Though if you run Talonflame you want those Rocks GONE and it helps to save him for either clean-up or threat-checking. M-Blastoise buddies up well with him: a bulky, specially-offensive Water spinner/spinblock-destroyer and a fast physical flyer who abuses high-power priority. They cover eachother's flaws really well.

All of this is accurate. The best way to play him is as the revenger or the endgame cleaner. Swords Dance can be worth carrying if you don't have a better option (he doesn't have too many), because if you do find an opportunity to fire one up he becomes a LOT scarier. It just shouldn't be the primary goal when using T-flame.

Essentially:
Flare Blitz
Flying STAB (BB is preferable but if we get F Gem Acrobatics will have merit)
Then pick two of the following:
SD, Roost, U-Turn, Tailwind, Steel Wing, Bulk Up

Tailor to your team's needs and what you want to achieve, then slap a Life Orb on him (or a Band or I guess a Sharp Beak or some shit).

Talonflame is NOT an unholy destroyer of worlds. He is NOT a gutter-trash shitmon like so many of his birdy brethren. He fits a niche that needs filling and is great if you play him smart. Like, ya know, most decent Pokemon.

Well no shit, the point was that SD was worthwhile, and it clearly is if even a Garchomp is more or less dead on the switch-in once Mawile comes out.

Also 75% is great odds, especially since having, what, ANY hazards in play turns that into an OHKO?

And sure, Chomp can Mega. But he won't, because nobody runs Mega Chomp.

What Chomp CAN do is SD, if he's not banded, because he expects the sucker punch. Though that's a prediction game because GOD FORBID Mawile got another SD, it would be lights out.

That's not a wasted slot.

And I see people saying "sub is better"; maybe, and sub is not a bad move.

But Sub/SD/Sucker Punch/Play Rough covers more situations and provides a lot of options. My point is SD, especially since you can usually land a free one when Mawile first Megavolves, is not a wasted slot by any means.

That's not a chance a smart player takes. A smart player does not throw a key mon on their team to the wolves for no reason on a 1 in 4 chance of killing the opponent with <10% HP remaining.

I'm not saying SD is required to make M-Mawile work but given the ease of getting one off it's not exactly a stupid move is my point,

So I'm not exactly a brilliant strategist when it comes to pokemon, but why do I never see Aegislash considered as a baton pass recipient? One of the hardest counters you can throw at the guy is the ability to cripple him and/or phase him out with taunt, but he doesn't give a flying fuck if you do that with him already boosted, and he comes in in shield forme so he can take the hit. Seems to me like rather than try and play this silly out-predict game with him you could pass him the boosts and let him sweep. Obviously if he can't OHKO with shadow sneak he's still going to be in trouble if taunted, but everything has counters and if that happens you have to switch him out and deal with it. Not to mention has anyone crunched the numbers on what he can out-speed after a smashpass? If you have a cloyster or something that can get that shit off, do some damage, and then pass it off to aegislash before it dies he may be able to get by...

Garchomp risks eating a sucker punch if it attacks (which, again, will OHKO at +2), but risks a play rough if it doesn't. Yes, in the very beginning he was seen as the savior of all bird Pokemon, he was going to come in and sweep all those super powered Fighting types and Close Combat any Rock or Steel types that tried to stop him. It obviously didn't work in practice, buy there was a lot of hype behind Staraptor at first.

Neither of them is a completely top tier monster, but they have some use and application, mostly thanks to abilities. It'll be interesting to see where they land. Dunno if Staraptor will finally find a home in UU or if he'll get banned again. I feel like Talonflame has a slight edge over him due to a more specialized, defined niche that he can fill in OU, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up a high UU threat who just shows up in OU every once in a while to clean up those who don't expect him. He's not perfect, but the kid is good, he's gonna stick around in at least some capacity.

Talonflame is a great pokemon, but it kills itself with one or two BB/FB after switching into rocks, that's not even accounting for what the opponent does in the meantime.

SD/KS Aegislash only works against the game's AI or complete retards, it's going to be forgotten in favor of the full mixed set. You don't need to run KS to go back into shield mode, you just fucking switch.

Talonflame is good but overrated. 95% of the time, it will outspeed it's opponent anyways. It stops a few Pokemon in their tracks, but Tyranitar and Rotom-W are insanely common and hard counter it as long as you switch them in as soon as you see a Talonflame on the field. Sooner or later, Landorus-T and Heatran will also prove to be a problem for Talonflame, and I think Talonflame's usage will drop to low OU once those two come out. Unsurprisingly, those two also give Aegislash problems.

If Talonflame is annoying you on WiFi then use Aggron. There is literally nothing Talonflame can do to KO Aggron before it gets KO'd itself. Once you have that then it's just a matter if your other 2 mons are good enough to beat theirs.

Why do poeple keep thinking theyre good pokemon? I've never had a problem beating them, the first time I went up against each of them I thought it was gonna be a tough fight, but both off them went down within two turns. Don't go around rying just because your team of LOLSOOPPOGEYMANZ can't stand up to an inanimate object or a roast chicken.
