Using legendaries is saying, "I am not confident enough as a trainer not to use these Pokemon." It's bringing a gun to a knife fight, and using them is admitting that you're bad at the game. The exception to this is Ubers. It's fair when they're being used by everyone. But since it's common courtesy not to use legendaries or ubers in battles with friends, doing so is just admitting a lack of confidence in your skills.
