Vivillon with many different patterns are found all over the world. The patterns on this Pokémon’s wings depend on the climate and topography of its habitat.

Your pattern is assigned based on your 3DS profile settings. It depends on both your country and your region. You set up your region manually. If you don't set up a region, you get the default for your country.

You only can find one pattern in the wild. Changing your settings mid-game doesn't affect the pattern you get. Changing your settings works if you do it before starting a new save.

If you get a Scatterbug from another player, it will evolve into the pattern from that player. When you breed Vivillon, your region will assign the pattern regardless of its parents.

There are two extra patterns that were obtained by someone manipulating the 3DS. They will probably be distributed at promotional events.

Also, I just have to set my 3DS country/region to the pattern I want, start the game, save, then I can swithc my region back and resume game like normal and I will always have the awesome Vivillon, right?

Yes. Depends on what your 3ds region is though. USA region 3ds can't get Monsoon and Tundra(?). Your pattern is determined once you save your game with the region you select.

Well there's 2 FCs listed, but one of the FCs has TWO patterns listed for it. That's why I'm asking how one console can have 2 patterns.

I think she just lists what vivillions she has for trade. Iirc, Aida doesn't have any space for new friends so she just trades them all to one account. There's virtually no way to have two patterns to one game.

Can I buy a new game, set my region to a rare Viv pattern, trade a ton of those to my other game, then delete the save file, set a different region and get the new pattern?

Or once the game recognizes its first pattern, it's set to that forever and even starting a new game can't change the pattern?
