No, those aren't comparable. Aiming requires skill, and aimbotting destroys that aspect of the game. Getting good mons requires tediously spawning hundreds of eggs and mindlessly grinding in Super Training, neither of which are feats that require the player to be good at in order to succeed.

Without hacks, Pokemon is essentially a contest of "who wasted more time" rather than "who is the better player".

Gamefreak specifically says that pokegenning is illegal and will ban you from VGCs if found out. Fucking genners. It takes less than an hour per pokemon at less than 1 box of eggs to get a 4-5IV pokemon of the desired nature and ability, unless you are looking for the rare specifics or RNG completely fucks you over (in which case, why did you not soft reset 15 mins in of not getting shit on inheritances?)
There are no more excuses for genning, you can get hidden abilities quite easy for a lot of mons, perfect IVs with friend safari mons which are in same egg fields, nature with synchronize ralts/kirlia readily available in safaris/early routes.

Also, at least in many college courses cheating on an exam does not guarantee you a perfect score, unless you have the actuall resolved test to cheat from. You can't go to a Python course exam and expect to just copy pre-made code snippets for your specific problem and actually pass the thing, just as you cant expect to have a gened team on pokemon and actually just press a and win.

Just in case you did not notice, this gen you can have your game remotely deleted, even if it is in a cart, if GF finds out you have been cheating, since you have to go online on the 3DS system before than on the PSS.
I seriously hope that GF gets it right this time and at least bans your game from using the PSS.

So basically what you're saying is that you don't want to do a few battles in the Maison, get multiple Power Items, hatch a few preferred pokemon with perfect IV's (or what you deem appropriate), and then run to a Route with 4 un-EV'd pokes, find a specific Horde encounter with your Sweet Scent Poke, then Discharge/EQ/Surf and merc all 5 in one go?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you are an inebriated and selfish faggot. You also probably don't even realize once you get the Power Items, the Sweet Scent poke and the one that can OHKO all of the Horde encounters, you've sufficiently cut down training by 75%.

The worst you could possibly do now is to do more than 8 encounters against 2EV Hordes with a Power Item. After that, one go in the Super Training and you're capped at 252.

To be frank I'm surprised GameFreak hasn't opened up a "customize" style of play that does what Smogon does; clearly many people prefer to play that way and don't want to waste time building mons, while others find building mons a satisfying experience in and of itself.
For my own part, I enjoy most the exploration, finding all the wild mons and catching them. That's what makes Pokemon interesting to me. I'm happy to go out and catch things. Others don't feel that way, and want a mon solely because they need it to win.
I don't begrudge them the desire to PokeGen. Why should I? They're skipping something unfun to them, while I still get to enjoy it. That's win-win.
The problem is that people who enjoy breeding DON'T ACTUALLY ENJOY IT. They don't breed because it's entertaining. They breed because what they lack in skill, they'd like to make up for in sheer spare time. They want the end results of breeding to be something they have a monopoly over, so they have competitive/trade leverage.
That's why they're whining. It's not that they've been denied something, it's that when everyone has something they no longer have the power position that comes from exclusivity. Pokegen doesn't take away their fun because they aren't actually HAVING any; what it takes away is their sense of superiority.
It's like someone giving away designer clothes to homeless people, and then a bunch of elitists complaining about it. They only ever wanted something that others didn't have so they could lord it over them, they never wanted it for its own sake.
Which, of course, makes them the worst kind of people imaginable. Seriously, the people whining about Pokegen are the kind of people who just have tremendously ugly personalities in real life.

It is extremely difficult to breed a 6IV mon even with the new mechanics. 1/155 to get 31 or 0 on your 6th stat provided you have 2 5IV parents with the desired nature. Up that 1/155 to 1/310 if you need a mon with 2 available abilities or 1/465 if you need a 6IV mon with a specific ability, and finally to 1/930 if you need 6IV with specific ability out of 3 and specific gender.
Genned pokemon are NOT the same as everyone else's.

Correct. But you've missed the part where the games aren't battle simulators; they're a full set of other things, like breeding and trading. The in-game competition isn't just 'who can win the battle with the best team they can think of'; it's 'who can win the battle with the best team they can create'. In playing the cartridge games, people implicitly agree to this set of rules. To get around it, people have to hack the games with external devices, gaining an unfair advantage over those who play legitimately. To analogise it to a game of sports, it isn't just about which team has the best strategy and tactics; there's the training and physical nature of the teams, which is why steroids are banned. Pokegen is the equivalent of these steroids.

I enjoy battling pokemon, but the mechanics of the game, and the attitudes of breeders (making only IV perfect pokemon usable for online play) has ruined that.

Battling pokemon with other people online has been gated. Just like a gear grind in an mmo, the fun has been placed after the mind numbingly asinine act of breeding perfect pokemon. In mmos this is done to keep people paying the monthly fee. In pokemon it serves no purpose other than to prevent me from enjoying part of the core game.

If breeding perfect pokemon was an interesting and fun process I would have no problem with it. But it is not.

And the irony of all this is that breeders that the problems are the result of people hacking. That not the problem at all. If people didn't breed IV perfect pokemon, the majority of people probably wouldn't care about pokegening perfect pokemon. To a certain extent breeders have created this problem themselves. Of course the actual fault is on the part of the game developers implementing a stupid system.

And as I'm sure some idiot will create an obviously retarded analogy to explain why pokegenners are still satan spawn scum I'll preemptively refute that too. People who pokesav do not want the end result handed to them. They would not enjoy the game more if you could skip every gym leader and go right to the E4, that's missing the point. The difference is that the process of working towards the E4 and through the games story is engaging and FUN, or at least it should be. It is not about NOT WANTING TO WORK FOR SOMETHING. It is about not wanting to engage in mindless drudgery. That's not why people play games. At least it isn't why most sane adults who have to actually engage in boring drudgery for a large part of their lives just to live play games.

Sorry, but no. Gening is against the terms and conditions you agreed with when starting to play this game. If it was considered fair by the damm makers of this game, they'd already have made a tool for gening mons readily available, which they haven't. Instead, they have specifically adressed the issue with disaproval and threatening to ban anyone using gened mons on legit tournaments from all the competitions.

There is no excuse this generation not to breed your team: there are 2-3-4 IV dittos on normal safari, 2-3 IV mons from every egg group on every other safari, you can inherit 5IV at a time, you can hatch eggs faster than they are given to you with hatching o-power. You can EV-horde battle train in less than 4 battles per stat.
It is currently taking me less than an hour from having no pokemon to having a 4-5IV competitive pokemon. There are no more excuses: if you have time for competitive pokemon battling, you now have time to breed your competitive team.

The only way Nintendo/Game Freak can get rid of the hacker appeal of Pokemon is to eliminate IVs, egg moves, and rare abilities.

Of course, then breeding also loses most of it's appeal, aside from... Um... Breeding for shiny Pokemon, I guess.

In addition, the time wasted on breeding is really just a waste compared to other things you could be doing. I think many people who were hacking before are actually breeding perfect shit now and liking it, but it's not going to be like this forever.

GF might have finally gotten an algorithm for detection, adn does not announce it for some time to catch the hackers/prevent them from circumventing the new check. it's an hour per mon, you faggot.
EV training takes about 5 minutes with EV items in hordes and pkrs, you get 50 EV per battle and can just surf through every horde in the game.
If you have time to battle competitively, you have time to breed your pokemon. The times are not unreasonable anymore, even though genning was never justified.

Legitimate methods of obtaining perfect Pok?mon, such as breeding, are like working for a salary in real life. You don't enjoy it, it's not necessarily fun, it takes a ton of time, but in the end you still get paid.

Hacking is the Kim Kardashian method of "making money", or obtaining perfect Pok?mon. You're getting rewarded for doing absolutely nothing, while other people are actually working for it.

I can understand why people would want to hack, but it's just annoying to breeders (such as myself) who actually work for it.

Here's an analogy that works better than the 'steroids' one.

You're in a tri-athlon. It involves swimming, biking and running. You hate swimming and biking, but love to run. In fact, you're not even sure how to swim or ride a bike. Part of the reason why pokemon will always be hackable is because the data that makes up a single pokemon is so small. This means its its only a matter of time before people determine what triggers "hacked" checks and what doesn't.

The game has 2 components that have almost equal value: stats and strategy. How do you get good IVd/EVd mons? Breeding! How do you get good strategy? Battling! You have less odds of winning with shitmons/missing the OHKO on pokemon due to a single point in a stat, and you have less odds of winning if you can't strategize.

I play this game to battle. The story was fun. The metagame is all I really care about. Movesets, abilities, team compositions, scouting, harassing, gimmicks, and everything else that makes battling random people or friends interesting.

Breeding is not interesting. Or fun. It is time consuming. It's also not "simple" like so many people tend to claim it is, it has a lot of hidden values, RNG bullshit, and outside resources recommended like IV calculators.

If pokemon were about breeding, it would be something different. If I was paying big$$$ to play, I might think differently. I'm not though.

I don't mind hacked teams that have their stats predetermined, all within legitimate limits, and some choice moves already to minimize the hassle of spending hours to just have a battle with pokemon I like that play as they should in terms of the metagame.

That's REALLY cool it ONLY TAKES 6 HOURS to get a "perfect" team in this game legitimately (if all your estimates are even reliable). Too bad I still only care about battling. I want to watch the pretty monsters use their awesome moves and I want this shit to play like the crazy ass game of chess it is.

If I had to breed my Kens and Ryus in Streetfighter because they might have lesser stats and it took me hours, I'd be done with that game too.

Also, lets do the math of 2IV pokes with 1IV overlap. Theres a 1/2 chance that all 3 stats you want inherited are chosen to be passed. Guarantee to pass the overlap stat assuming that. 1/2 chance to pass unique stat from each parent. 1/2*1/2*1/2=1/8 chance

As long as you keep requiring internet connection to play the game online (which, if you allow me, is kind of necessary TO PLAY ONLINE), then GF can find a way to ban hackers. Specially this gen, since mons appear to be signed by the console itself, adding more layers of security.

As a contrast, I've bred several 5 IV mons without doing anything but using the in-game marking system (which I do mostly for wonder trades; I could just toss them into named boxes or something) and an extremely lazy approach to breeding of doing other things while I'm running back and forth hatching, then only bothering to look at IVs after I have 10-15 of them sitting around. It's still really easy, unless I end up needed to breed something with a hidden ability.

The only time this seems to be not working out as well is my current Talonflame breeding attempt, but that's failing to due RNG more than anything else. I've generated now probably 5-6 5 IV fletchlings, just not with the ones I want.

Honestly, as someone who *just started playing* Pokemon with this release, this is really damn easy and the only reason it even takes time at all is because I'm really into getting something as close to perfect as possible (though I did give up on getting Mawile with Intimidate and just went with Hyper Cutter because I wanted to do something else for a bit).

This is the norm now. No decent breeder is getting an avarage greater than 4 gens per pokemon. The abnormal cases now are people who dont' know how to breed and take 10 gens to get a 4 IV mon, or people that do not know to reset the console when the RNG is obvously screwing you over.

Also, did you not read? It says "actions that may annoy other users". Using external methods to get perfect pokemon classifies very well as annoying for people who play the game legitimately. You don't need to crack open your card and hook it up to the PC to classify as a breach in the EULA.

Since a lot of people are arguing over how gf could detect hacked pokemon, couldn't they just hash it? All your pokemon's information, as well as trainer metadata, is stored in a hash function they can check. Since it's impossible for us to figure out what they're doing for this hash, we wouldn't be able to replicate it but gf servers could easily check the validity of any pokemon going online. This wouldn't stop Pokemon duping (if you were careful), but other than that it'd be a pretty solid system.

You know why I bring this up? because hackmons are obtained by the same general method: bring game offline, hack content into it, go online with the content. Blizzard detects hacked content, blocks it. Will you tell me that no one on earth can write a program to check which one is the legit one?
GF has already stated that they are confident with their new checking methods. Also, the game is now more online reliant. They shut down your PSS and you can't use the GTS, online trade, o-powers, battles, no friend safari. Nothing. You want to hack but not go online with the hackmons? Go ahead, you'll only be able to battle/trade/friend safari locally.

Not the same thing D3 has a completely different structure and if you look at ti its completely clear how they do it.
They have all their RNG for drops and so on working on their servers where the user has no influence and also store all the equipment there.

Looks solid to me: to go online in pokemon you need the latest patch, which can be very simple to force upon you. If you start a new game, you'd have to go and patch it again, for the servers to get your new IDs
Also, to patch pokemon you need to go into the 3DS e-shop, for which the nintendo servers must update your console, effectively patching out your software. If you cant get into the eshop, you cant patch your pokemon game and you cant go online with your hackmons. Additionally once you are online they'd read your hash and problem solved.

That single spreadsheet is in fact anecdotal, which was your original argument. Which was all I was talking about there. And again, I said it wasn't my example for the 2x2. I do know it is suicidal. Talk about being dense. I HAVE infact been breeding because while we don't know yet, there's a good chance GF can block hacks this time.

And do you know anecdotal also applies to samples that don't represent a population well? How do you know they just aren't speaking up because they are having good luck? You don't. Anything read off of a board isn't reliable, you would need to do a thorough probability analysis.

Let me just say that my personal experiences have been around the same. BUT, I don't think it's a good representation of what other people are experiencing and I don't think it's fair to just force people to breed to be competitive if they don't want to.

thought about that at first, but when I wanted to find a last gen breeder (sample: breeders who are not new to breeding) who had a hard time breeding, I just couldn't. Not online, not IRL. Seriously, go to any forum that last gen was filled with cries about people getting incredibly screwed over by RNG, they are filled now with perfect mon trading threads.
Also, it's statistically impossible for all the breeders I know to be lucky. I know about 60 breeders irl from college alone, and I've been trading in vp and gamefaqs ever since we found out about the destiny knot, I've filled my friend list from 75 to 100 about 9 times by now. I don't think my sample size is small by any means, specially when breeders are not really that numerous.

but that is how the game is played. it's the same as a rule in any other game. It's the grinding part of the RPG.

That's nice for you to do that, but that doesn't magically make that single post not anecdotal (which I've specified almost every time that's what I was referring to but you continue to ignore it. And is what I was meaning to when I was saying you were ignoring part of my post.) Point is, don't use a single spreadsheet, backstep, then say others and I have had multiple (and now your saying hundreds? Not sure if you dumped from 100 down to 75 or dumped from 75-100 down to about 0) similar results if you want people to believe you. Present it upfront and not as a response of being called out for having anecdotal data.

RPGs are designed to have freedom for people to play the game in different ways. Also, in most RPGs you grind by doing one thing and the result is to be better at that one same thing. If there should be a "grinding" part, have it be related to battling on WFC or something. Not this tediousness.

keep in mind RPGs have two parts: getting the items to fight with/levels and then the actual fighting. Think monster hunter. You farm a monster's equipment to beat another mosnter because muh resistances/SE weapons. But beating the monsters you are grinding does not necessarily make you better at killing the other monster, since it's a whole new beast. There are also gathering missions where you get very specific materials unobtainable in mosnter quests
gathering=hatching
grinding for weapons=EV training in hordes
killing the actual monster=online play

Sorry, haven't played that game. Thing is though, does that have online play? I feel like having pvp features being forced to grind on pve things (if its a lot). In that game, from what I understand, everything is pve so that's fair there.
But this is about pvp. I feel like things should be a bit more GW2 (I believe they temporarily level cap you in battle grounds?) Again, that's just me.

Not PVP, but it does have online, where the "thrill" or competitive part is actually just getting items. Collecting for the sake of collecting, with the added dificulty of monsters in the middle. Very, very hard monsters.
