Neither. A Pokemon - Sylveon - evolves through Amie, so they won't make Sylveon inaccessible. Mega Evolution was GF's "big reveal" and is probably what they where most excited to showcase.

The reveal of Mega Evolutions this gen kinda confirmed cross-generation evolutions are going to be few and far between. Not saying they're not going to happen anymore, I mean, look at Sylveon. I'm just saying there's going to have to be a good reason to introduce cross-generation evolutions in future generations. Sylveon's whole purpose was to promote Fairy Type, after all.

Right because megas of 3 staged fully evolved Pokemon don't exist.

I agree that some megas should have been normal evolutions, but it's good to see them breathing life into old Pokemon. Before the best many Pokemon could hope for was a good hidden ability to save them.

Mega are part of the game now, they'll be expanded upon.

Pokemon Amie is too big too, they went through too much effort making animations for the pokemon. The next iteration will have much more voice control and interaction, as hinted at in an interview.

They'll drop super training but keep an easy way to see your EVs.

I honestly don't see them getting rid of either. For the past 3 generations Game Freak has talked about bonding with pokemon. They seem to have finally achieved what they wanted with Amie. I can see it expanded upon though. Masuda did say he wanted your pokemon to "talk" to you. Maybe your bond with your pokemon can go deeper in an upgraded Amie?

I mean, not Spinda and Pangoro,but like, make a prevo that can evolve into Miltank or Tauros, either a prevo for Luvdisc that could evolve into Luv or Amoramola and Tauros/Bouffalaunt.

I mean, they did it with Tyrouge and Hitmonchan/lee so..anything should be possible, right?

I think next gen, Sylveon will probably evolve with some sort of held item and then trade or level up. Honestly, they could just leave it so that Eevee has to learn a Fairy move which'd be Baby Doll Eyes or whatever at level 29.

Instead of making more of these retarded alternate forms forced into the story and contributing literally nothing they should have just added some more evolutions. for older pokemon. I would rather have more Amie because it's actually something different for once, but it's not at it's maximum potential in XY.

Much more unique animations for each pokemon, (like the high-fives) more games to play and outside-battle interactions, like walking with you on the overworld for example.

Everyone knows this will never happen though, and we'll have another batch of +stat items exclusively for certain pokemon again.

You could get Umbreon and Espeon in gen 3 if you traded an Eevee from FRLG to RSE. Remember the clock you set at the very beginning of RSE? That's the ingame clock and in charge of the day/night system, even though you couldn't see it.

What about them is a failure? Many Pokemon that received them became much more viable or varied. They're also strong enough to be notable, but not to the extent in which you absolutely have to use them. If anything they're exactly where they need to be.

Mega-Mawile could have been an extra evolution stage.
The same for M-Lucario.
M-Blaziken has no real difference to the original Speed Boost Blaziken, which Smogon ended up banning.

Scizor, Tyranitar and Garchomp didn't fucking need a mega evolution.
Pokemon like Manectric don't gain anything from having one.
M-Alakazam is in the majority of situations WORSE than regular Alakazam.

It's a stupid idea and it needs to be forgotten.

Mega is their answer to the question of "how do we keep riding that 1st gen wave?". Expecct Mega-Pikachu when they pop out that Detective Pikachu game.

And Amie because GF can be amazingly LAZY and counter productive ... and that works in favor of Amie. There's NO WAY GF has gone through the effort of making the most common sense feature for a Monster training game only to scrap all of these animations for EVER POKEMON EVER for the next game (that's likely to still be on the 3DS).

Pretty sure Mega Evolutions were intended to be fan service for the popular pokemon(hence why Charizard got two of them when the other Kanto starters only got one) and attempts to make pokemon who were possibly never good(Mawile, Manectric and Kangaskhan) better. In some cases it worked well, and in others it didn't.

Mega evolutions are probably going to stay because it effects regular battles, like in the maison and wifi, but amie might get dropped because it's just one of those passing fancies that all Pokemon games seem to have. That being said, Sylveon will probably receive a trade item evolution in the future.

They didn't.

Mega Evolutions are both fanservice(for the stronger and popular pokemon like Garchomp, Blaziken, Charizard, Gyarados and Tyranitar) and a way to make pokemon that were either outclassed over time or simply never good better(Mawile, Kanga, Ampharos and Banette).

Charizard kind of falls a bit in to both categories though, I guess.

No, some of these Pokemon were just bad even if we're not going by tiers. They got screwed over by movepool, bad ability, typing, or most importantly stats. There's this thing called base stat totals where some just have more stats overall. Mawile for example has very low stats, and her mega boosts her to an acceptable level (and it's still not close to 600+ like a legendary. Megas /= broken). Some take on different roles when they mega evolve too, so you just wouldn't be able to play them the same.

It's not like using legendaries, and you can do well with or without them. They're fine, and they're here to stay.

Well, then whether Mega-Evolutions are a failure shouldn't matter because you haven't explained the context in how they are failures. I'm not obsessed with tiers but they aren't entirely wrong either. It would be stupid to ignore them completely, and yes some Pokemon will just lose out because of stats. It doesn't mean they're terrible, but it does mean what they can do is limited and that some are better than others.

From a competitive stand point they're a success, and from a casual stand point as well.

I hate Mega Evolutions because they were unnecessary and added yet another ridiculous and broken complication to battling. They were added to drum up sales figures, and I honestly believe they were never even once play tested or balanced.
Sure, let's just give immense stat boosts to a SELECT FEW Pokemon with almost no fucking repercussion, that can be used the same turn they attack, and add completely fucking overpowered abilities, like Parental Bond.
I don't give a FUCK what Pokemon gets Mega Evos, I wish they'd go the fuck away.

Same logic applies to Amie, and there's the fact that they made over thousands of models for the feature, and I don't think they'd spend all that time and money in a feature that's only going to stick around in one gen. Pokemon stories have never been that great, and I (sort of) agree there, but it isn't true that they don't add competitively. Many pokemon are seeing way more use because of their megas, and the mechanics to it are actually interesting as it adds more depth to how you play. The thing is, even though it only has 70 pokemon so many of them are cool and interesting that it actually ends up one of the better gens in terms of pokemon design. Adding more pokemon would just give them a higher chance of getting it right.

You're using scald in the SUN, it's not that strong of a water move and sun takes away the power of water, making it 1.5x to fire types at most. Zard Y is good but it's typing makes it weak to hazards and it's very frail on the physical side. Sucker punch is predictable. There's always people who talk shit on Mawile and Khan because of their reliance on it.

Mawile isn't even that bad. I can work around a Mega Khan but it's mechanic was poorly thought out and is entirely fucking broken.
And the fact they can mega evo and take an action on the same turn for a significant and instantaneous stat boost without any repercussion is also retarded and broken.
