Correct me if I'm wrong here as I don't keep up with the ultra-competitive scene much but haven't they only thrown three non-legendaries into ubers? (Garchomp, Exadrill, and Blazkien?) and I know Garchomp is back in OU now.

I wouldn't call that banning everything. I 've seen metagames that are much, MUCH worse when it comes to banning shit.

Gen 6 bans Xerneas, Yveltal and Mewtwo plus stuff that's not released yet. Don't remember the Pokebank banlist, but it has most of the box legendaries except Kyu-B.

Okay, so, here's an explanation. You obviously don't know anything about this.

Tiers are based on usage. A Pokemon is "overused" or OU because people use it too much. A Pokemon that is "neverused" or NU is in that tier because, well, no one but a minority uses it.

Tiering Pokemon is actually good. Because:

>In uber tier, you can play anything.
>In OU tier, you can play anything, except for the uber banlist.
>In UU tier, you can only play with UU and NU.
>In NU tier, you can only play with NU.

So, if you want to use your NU bro in an environment where it will actually do something, try playing in NU. Now, if you want to use your NU bro in another tier, you can always do so. However be prepared to be raped, because many things in OU do the same things your bro can do, and better.

Why is NU such a vague tier? There are over 200 pokemon in NU; even when you try to play within the tier constrictions there is still huge power discrepancies when pokemon like Articuno and the Regis are considered on the "same level" as pokemon like Spinda or Unown.

Should there be more tiers for better defining power or is what there is enough?

Because tiers aren't based on power levels, they're based on usage. And given no one uses Articuno and the Regis, they go to NU.

I'm pretty sure Wobbuffet and Wynaut were banned in Gen 3 and/or 4 because of how struggle worked, and a battle between two Wobbuffet wouldn't end because they recovered more with Leftovers then lost due to struggle.

I just wish things were more balanced out and they weren't so quick to ban things, and I really hate the way a lot of the smogon pages are worded. If I'm going to a specific pokemon's page I don't want to be lectured about how it's "completely outclassed" by other different ugly pokemon

Of course they state that in a page, because pokemon are used for their stats and qualities, not looks. Think of it this way: there's your bro, and then there's your bro but with better stats, moves and/or typing. They are the same appearance-wise, only the qualities differ. Which will you choose?

I don't understand using pokemon because they look good or have a cool name or whatever, if they are outclassed you are just choosing something worse than another mon.

Because a lot of Pokemon have different roles. Delphox could be a good special sweeper but Alakazam has more SpA/Spe while also having a wider special movepool. Delphox movepool focus on support while not having the defenses to live long as say, Musharna.

Its useable just other pokemon can do it. Smogons basically you can use a better Pokemon for that role in the team.

Some Pokemon just aren't very useful in Meta.
I still prefer to make a team that is not just good, but are full of Pokemon that I adore.

Those tiers basically correlate "It's used a lot so it's good", which is only valid with tons of data (that's why their current tiering for x y is preliminary, which they stress out everytime they talk about them).

Some RU pokes might actually have a niche where they perform outstandingly with a certain comp, but since it's just a niche, they will be used more sparsely than pokes who perform good by themselves, thus their relegation in lower tiers. OU's tend to be general powerhouses because they perform well independently of the team, and are thus found in a lot of teams

They don't ban mons on a whim, they go go through extensive suspect testing for edge cases. And if, based on usage lists, something is used on teams way too much, it could be banned. But it's not instant, they try the meta without it and see what the absence of the mon does to the effectiveness of other mons. It is not as simple as people seem to think.

Their only reason to keep the tiering system going is to provide an enjoyable experience for everyone, where as many mons as possible are viable. They want people to use diverse teams and try new sets, that's why they ban overcentralizing mons. People need to understand this. And if they don't understand this, just don't fucking follow their tiering system what the fuck, nobody's forcing you to. Try nintendo's official meta, see for yourself which is more fun.

Dude, no. You need to think of all the threats in a tier and how to counter them. You need to keep speed tiers in mind when deciding EV spreads. You need to think of type weaknesses and resists. You need to think if a certain strategy completely fucks you over (No phazer? Baton bass kills you. etc.) It is not that simple, not in the least.

But prior to the Gen V I wouldn't use a Sableye despite loving the little guy (thank you Dream World).
