More common, still garbage.

Until they give every Pokémon segmented skin patterns which are alterable via breeding, allowing us to make all sorts of alternate shinies via selective breeding, I do not care. When I see someone's shiny, I know it's either going to be an easy kill or (not pertinent atm) it's genned.

It's a stupid system, since once you get the shiny you can't do a single thing with it. They could make 50% of all pokemon you catch in the field shiny and I still would not care.

However, since GF continues to lower the rate, shinies will become more common and as a result actually lose value.

It's funny how the logic of such things fringes on MMO logic. That is, looking good being either a consequence of rarity / grind or simply being a conscious decision.

Does pokemon work better if shinies are super rare (and statistically worthless competitively) or if there's a more complicated skin system (like some of the genIV pokemon having tons of region patterns/colors) that is more about individuality?

Some people really get off on knowing no one else has what they have. Others just see it as a waste of time, and just want what looks good, not what's rare.

I don't believe the actual shiny rate has gone up. I do believe that the Safari shiny rate is tremendously higher, and chain fishing and Horde battles make it easier.

I haven't seen any convincing source yet other than "well someone looked into the data and it said so, so yeah"

Smea is uncooperative because he flat out refused to provide data to the people who could make very good use of it, on the grounds that he "couldn't be bothered". He also came to us for help with editing the encounter slot values in RAM, then fucked off when we asked him for help.
