Maybe something like your image but less "pirate-y". The mimic chest is a pretty standard enemy in JRPGs anyway.

As for other object Pokémon, eh I can take them or leave them. Klefki is okay, the Magnemite line too but that's about it for me.

I think it could work. Ditch some of the pirate stuff, slap a Vivillonesque gimmick like "the jewels and treasure in its mouth vary depending on factor X" and you're golden.

That's what Voltorb/Electrode were kind of. Since loot chests were shown as pokeballs. But I think a proper chest would be cool
