Look by the charging light, there's a little hole there that goes through to the bottom, and one on the opposite side of the DS too.
At least, that's how they worked on other DSs. Haven't tried on 3DS.

I think it can work if done right, in terms of matching colors/themes.

I remember seeing a Sylveon charm on a pink XL once and it looked adorable. If it were any other Eeveelution it'd probably look like shit.

Personally, I'd be too afraid of the damn thing breaking under the weight of all the shit I carry around in my backpack.
