I recently bought a used copy of Platinum and the previous trainer had a level 100 Staravia in a Masterball. No nickname, a poor nature, and Fly. I don't entirely understand.

Seriously throughout all the Gen 3 +4 games I have a pile of 9 Master Balls I've never used. And they're wasted because I never intend to go back to playing those games unless it's a new game.

I encountered Xerneas just today, I held back on using the master ball. I'd only keep it for suicidal shiny pokemon and/or the last legendary that remains to be caught.

Starting with D/P the legendaries you encounter in the main story have absurdly high catch rates, so it would be a waste no matter what.

Using the Master Ball is a very subjective thing.

I think the only time when you would objectively NEED to use it, would be if there were a hypothetical shiny roaming Legendary with Shadow Tag that had a suicide move.

Of course, there is no such thing, and for that we can be thankful.

I always use my Master Ball on the first legendary I encounter because having them in anything else doesn't feel right. I then hold back on fighting any other legendaries until I get more Master Balls.

That's nothing special anymore, I caught it numerous times with quick balls, luxury balls and premier balls until I had one with proper stats. The story legends have really high catch rates.
