This is a good thing.

I hatched a 5iv dratini (adamant, marvel scale) and numerous 4iv with close to perfect 5th in BW2. There's no real "pride" in taking that much time building your team. With the new system you can actually go out and compete, whereas previously the pokegen'ers always had a small leg up in stats and huge leg up in time spent building.

Pokemon was always casual as fuck. The only slightly hardcore mechanic is the pants on head retarded breeding system, and that isn't necessary at all to beat the main game. It's only if you want to play online. Even then, breeding isn't difficult, just time consuming.

Not even slightly. You can lose all the time and never win nor improve just battling. You aren't guaranteed anything at all if you just plain suck. You can get better and win more frequently by learning how to play and getting more skill, but you won't eventually become winner of the VGCs if you don't improve.

In Breeding, that's rolling dice. Any monkey can do that. An infinite amount of monkeys with an infinite amount of keyboards can write up the works of William Shakespeare. Breed a trillion eggs and it's likely some of those will end up pentaperfect. Or even hexaperfect.
