-Go into a decent field of grass (I like route 2 as a beginning place) and use the radar, go into any grass so long as it isn't the barely shaking variety. If it's the Pokemon you want, continue. If not, run and try again.
-From here on out, go exclusively for the very hard shaking grass and if it's one more than 1 step away(up, down, left, right, or diagonal). If you want to be safe, only when there are 4 or more shaking.
-Get to a chain of 40 and start resetting, you will eventually see a shiny patch (if not sooner due to luck).

Other things:
-resets with 2 or 3 shaking grass do not necessarily break your chain but have a high chance of doing so.
-Distance (so long as it isn't 1 space from you) doesn't seem to matter.
-edges do not necessarily break your chain but have a high chance of doing so.
-If there are multiple shaking grass, go to the furthest one away. If you can't tell which one shook hardest, reset to be safe.
-If ever in doubt, reset.
-Chain of 40 guarantees 2 perfect IVs. Chain of 60 guarantees 3 perfect IVs. You may purposely avoid/kill the shiny patch past 40 and get to 60, then keep resetting for a guaranteed 3 perfect IV shiny.

It's pretty obvious, but whoever it was that told me to get a foreign Onix to breed instead of a Ditto, you're a godsend, the eggs are shooting out. I fill up a box, cycle round Luminose centre while watching Cowboy Bebop, rinse and repeat.
Feeling so much happier with this than I was with Safari'ing. My soul isn't dying anymore. Already three boxes in, despite a massive delay to get a Calm Articuno for the guy who snagged the golden Onix off the GTS, who I now think I've lost.

Btw I just found out about this today, if you shake your ds and get up the step counter it increases the rate of recharge for the O-power circles.

You can check the number of steps by looking at the home screen and looking at the number next to the feet icon at the top. At 2000 steps the recharge rate is 2x, at 3000 its 3x and at 4000 its 4x, which is max. It resets every day.

At 4x you can keep hatch power on constantly without running out of circles.

What ellis said. Guy named Swinubfag gave me a tip for speeding up the process, if you don't care for pokemiles/wonder trading fodder, you can get 5 new eggs from daycare, hatch them, if they're not shiny, soft reset. Don't bother boxing them, releasing them, whatever, just reset. Saves time.

My first try to MM something, 1000 fucking eggs, and nothing. I started on thursday expecting to finish by the the next day, tops. This shit too my whole damn weekend. If the masuda rate is the same as gen 5 and the shiny rate is doubled like everyone is saying it was, there's only a 23% chance of hatching 1000 eggs and not finding a single shiny. I stopped wanting the actually pokemon about 900 fucking eggs ago but I've kept going just for the sake of hatching one damn shiny like everyone seems to be able to.

I tried that, using the exact same party setup the guy said he got his 6 shinies in a day with. Got 2 in 12 hours. He was just lucky. He didn't even have illuminate at the front of his party so he didn't have the increased encounter rate either.

And if you're not worried about natures, a pokemon with arena trap/illuminate + encounter power makes you encounter pokemon so fast.
more encounters = more chances for a shiny

Every 10 matches they boost the amount you get every match by 1, so 10-20 you start getting 2 every match I believe. Then the person you fight at 20 gives you 20. I think after that point you unlock a new option that lets you start at match 21 from then onwards or something. That's what I read anyway, I haven't done it myself.

Finally after 16 hours and 3 other shinies got the Whirlipede that I wanted. It's almost perfect, adamant, 31s in attack and speed. Only problem is it has Swarm instead of speed boost so it's not really usable. Still really happy I got one though.
