Team preview has been around ever since Stadium, and that was back when you would find a combination from less than 20 Pokémon in any viable team. Go ahead and keep track of every single possibility without any kind of aid.

It prompts you only if you have something in your battle box, unlike the Battle Maison where it asks you even if you don't have anything in it and is grayed out. To access it, check the screen where you can access your bag and change the music. There's a button that says Pokémon. There you can choose between battle box and party.
