It's a double edged sword of an ability, since you could end up stealing Choice items, Black Sludges, Toxic Orbs, etc., but there are some items that would work well in your favor when stolen, and even stealing Choice items would fuck up the opponent's strategy.

Unless you mean for just the length of the battle. Then that's possible.

Otherwise, that fox magician would be really overpowered and I would disconnect when encountering one for fear of permanently losing my leftovers.

I tested Magician with Power Herb + Solarbeam. And it steals the item when hits. So, it'll work with the gems.

Overheat + White Herb don't work in the same turn, though, just because the White Herb is consumed AFTER the hit, but Power herb/Gems are consumed before.

Its redundant when you can steal an item in the same turn you attack. That's all.
Besides, you don't know a Pokémon is holding an Mega stone (those can't be swapped).

So why not run something using Frisk and Thief/Covet like Niovern. Frisk lets you know exactly what they have and if it's worth stealing in the first place. And while you're trading away the power of solarbeam/overheat, you're gaining the options of not having to steal something bad.

If the item it uses is consumed on attacking, will it steal a new one when it connects?

e.g. My Delphox uses Solarbeam with a Power Herb or Fire Blast with a Fire Gem. Will it steal the opponent's item with this attack?

As someone that uses Chesnaught, no Gengar in the right mind wouldn't run Sludge Wave/Dazzling Gleam on an all offensive set.

It will OHKO him unless he has assault vest which will be a 2HKO. Its merely a simple okay check not a true counter.

Magician: The Pokémon steals the held item of a Pokémon it hits with a move. Your first thought might be "Fire Gem + Magician" to do extra damage and steal an item in a single turn. Sadly Delphox can't even do this. Magician doesn't work when you have an item meaning you have to attack TWICE to make it work..

Sludge Bomb is more powerful than sludge wave, considering people are stupid enough to underestimate a pokemon like Chesnaught, like you, then theres no reason to carry Sludge Wave, after all you only get stopped by that one "useless" pokemon. Carrying Dazzling Gleam over anything else means you 2HKO anything weak to it, not worth it.

Sorry, how is Sludge Bomb more powerful than Wave? Wave has 5 more BP, and has the same PP and acc as Bomb. Plus it hits more than one target.
