>>15840756It's basically a huge prediction gamble of whether or not you mega evolve right now or later.
People will try to predict you if they know your Gyarados has Gyaradosite, just like people with Gengar. Tons of people use Earthquake turn 1 on Gengar because of how it loses Levitate. It's a lot like that.
Your opponent has to think about using close combat on your Gyarados, because if you don't opt to mega evolve right now, you resist it, then you get a free dragon dance in, mega evolve, and proceed to sweep. If they opt for a rock move or something and you proceed to dragon dance mega evolve, you don't die, and proceed to sweep still even more.
The whole thing about him is that you don't have to mega evolve him right away to make the most of it. It's got its niche at least. And it's pretty decent at that.
And an extra ability since Intimidate is useless after switching in is always nice.
Wish it got Crunch.
>>15840882Megakazam is fine because it's basically holding both a life orb and a choice scarf with lower speed. It may do less damage overall, but its niche is in being able to grab that speed which so many Pokemon who only build to outspeed base 130s can never obtain. Nothing short of priority and weather abilities can outright beat you. And most Kingdra were even built to only outspeed base 130s as well.
He's worse than Focus Sash Alakazam as a revenge killer, I'll give you that, but he's still pretty great, just in a different role.
