I missed a Barbaracle with Sacred Sword three consecutive times with no accuracy debuffs or evasion buffs in play. Sacred Sword is 100 accuracy.

Simply because it was down to one-on-one, a Clawitzer confused me with Water Pulse and I knocked myself out.

After my other two getting demolished, my Noivern brought on a comeback, until the last pokemon was a scarfed outrage garchomp.

Trust me, if you lose at the maison it is very rarely your own fault.

In Gen V I had an opponent unexpectedly use a coverage (non-STAB) Psychic-type move (which OHKO'd my next Pokémon IIRC) when the Pokémon I had out was Dark-type. I can't tell if the AI is a cheating shit or if it really is intelligent. I think about this instance a lot and it continues to bug me!

Try Triples if you just want the T-Card upgrade, its much easier to cover your weaknesses and deal with bad luck or BS as you get a full team of 6.

Plus you can build a team with real good synergy and kick some ass.

I have two theories behind why we think the game cheats by movesets. One, GF has one or more randomized moves on each mon to spice things up and we don't have a maison of smogonesque mons.

Two, tell me surf wouldn't do more damage to physical walls. I'd surf a curse hippowdown all day. Until it used EQ, of course.

M-Khan all the way. Base 100 speed means you can outspeed most pokemon assuming you're jolly and hit them with something other than Sucker Punch if the situation demands it. You'll be killing almost everything in one turn that isn't a bulky water type after Power-up Punch anyway.

Just make sure you have something on your team that can take a focus blast or high jump kick.

I'm pretty sure it was proven in one of the previous gens that the battle tower pokemon had a randomized slot on their move list so that the computer could put whatever it needed to dick you over with.

I got to 59 in Platinum Battle Tower with a fucking Minun and Plusle, but it was only a matter of time that'd they face a Garchomp and Gliscor at the same time. I should have packed something in reserve with Blizzard.

Every Maison loss I've had so far has been because of misplays. Sometimes I'll lose a pokemon to hax, but not the whole match.

That's actually reasonable and comes up in competitive play. If your opponent is low enough that he'll die to a coverage move, you should use that coverage move on the off chance he switches out.

for example in Gen 4 when Wondertomb was a thing, Fire Fang had a weird quirk that let it hit spiritomb anyways.

everything suddenly has Fire Fang when you used it.

I've ran an untrained team without items (bar miracle seed for my Ottorro) and I've not run into any problems, I just use super effective moves and switched into my effective pokemon when I KO them.

It's really not that hard? I've only had 1 fluke where they used protect then another move first turn straight after, and somehow KO'd me.

I'm used to that particular Talonflame taking out Mega Gengar online 100% of the time, and their defensive stats are very similar, only 5 points different.

And it wasn't like the Starmie barely held on, it was in yellow.

I guess it could have had full HP/DEF investment but I've never fought a Starmie built like that before, I was expecting a sweeper.

Okay two things

One, the mother's ability is more likely to pass down, father if you are breeding with ditto.

And two, frisk is the better option because it's a bit redundant with boomburst already bypassing subs. I guess if you really hate gengar, maybe, but you are already risking a dazzling gleam to the face.

After getting to round 35 with a Poison Heal spore/sub/seed/focus punch Breloom, They led with their own breloom. It had Substitute as well, and a toxic orb, but for some reason it had Technician + Wake-up Slap instead of Poison Heal. I just stalled it out until it died of poison.

What do you guys like to lead with in Super Singles?

I've been having a lot of luck leading with Clawitzer. Great coverage with Water Pulse/Aura Sphere/Dark Pulse/Ice Beam, and bulky enough to usually avoid getting OHKO'd.

Just lost in super singles in match #56

Ran into the most unkillable thing I've ever seen.
Was a Venusaur with black sludge, putting down substitutes at what seemed like no cost at all ALL THE TIME and leech seeding.

There was no way to kill it ever unless you just happen to have multi-hit or sound moves with you.

Maison does not magicallly conjure up mons. There is a preset list of all the possible mons with set moveset and item (and likely ability).

There will always be an Aromatisse set with Attract/Sweet Kiss, there will always be an Aggron set with Surf, etc.

There are more than one set for each mons. Just because you face an Aggron doesn't mean it'll always be the special attacking Aggron.

As to what each trainer has/what you face? That's probably rigged by the game to try to find advantageous matchup against yours, but there's no actual 'cheating' involved.

I've seen people lose because a Walrein swept them with three consecutive OHKO moves.

I've had my team swept by a bulky Beheeyem in Black 2 because it had moves set to perfectly counter my team and its quick claw activated three times in a row.

Under normal circumstances the odds of these things happening are VERY unlikely. Either being unlucky is a disease, or the RNG is altered in the NPC's favor at higher levels of the battle institutes.

I always lead with Dragonite and Lum Berry + Multiscale means a free Dragon Dance and sweep for 60% of your battles.

I switch into Aegislash if they open with an Ice Type, if Dragonite falls naturally from a non-ice type, then switch into Exploud and revenge kill with Boomburst, if the next pokemon doesn't resist Boomburst, you can just sweep with Exploud.

Aegislash is just to revenge kill + abuse swords dance vs pokemon it can tank.

Timid Exploud complements my Dragonite well because it can reliably outspeed and revenge kill almost everything that could have taken it out, and usually it's some bulky pokemon that physically walled my Dragonite to death.

I tried Weakness Policy Dragonite, but it only lasted me about 25~ rounds before the AI started dishing out Hypnosis, T-Waves, and Confuse Rays. And at that point, Dragonite was just dead weight that could only 100-10 pokemon without Dragon Dance, if I went for the Dragon Dance, I'd be inflicted with burns and shit.

For those of you running sets with berries/sash/consumable items, are the items restored for the next match, or are they lost once used? This has been something stopping me from doing these sorts of things. I know they're returned from wifi battles, but I figured maison battles are offline and so they'd be gone once used.

It tries to fuck over my Talonflame with status hax just to get a lovely Substitute to play with, at which point it just spams protect every turn, my 110 Acrobatics only barely keeping up with its inane PP stall.

Substitute in Battle Maison is very useful but some pokemon just end up pissing around when you have one and wasting time.

Itemless with Acrobatics. Brave Bird isn't worth it if you're also running Flare Blitz.
I use Substitute, and it's very nice to have.
My fourth move is U-Turn, but I barely use it so Steel Wing might be better,

EV-wise I maxed attack, gave it 190 EVs of speed then put the rest into HP. It seems to survive lots of attacks by the skin of its teeth, so the extra bulk is worth it.

That's typically what you'd do but it's not in the game.

And there are no other options for immediately consumable items, except Return + Normal Gem but that's just pointless. I tried a Liechi berry and the lack of immediate powerful priority was missed.

On second thoughts I might actually consider having Aerial Ace instead of U-Turn/Steel Wing. You can always counter steel types but you can't as easily counter evasion hax.

Maybe I'm extremely lucky, but after battle 30 or so, the RNG stopped being abusive. I remember one time being confused, I hit myself one time out of 3.

I actually want to get the Super Doubles/Triples/Rotation trophies but I don't know how to build non-single teams.

I would just go special attack/hp. play him as a bulky wallbreaker or a special wall (in which case invest some of the special attack (or all if you want to run dragon tail maybe) into special defense).

dragalge is pretty shit until he can get adaptability, though.

cb gale wings talonflame works good against tornadus and landorus since it can outspeed them before they try to do prankster shenanigans, something like weavile and mega kangaskhan would probably be the best bet for the other two as they bring strong priority

Rock/Ground types like Rhyperior are a pretty much perfect counter for the genies, assuming they don't run a good hidden power (which competitively they would, but not in the Maison)
Also Weavile's Ice Shard doesn't generally OHKO genies, but its Ice Punch does OHKO if they're not too defensively invested. You risk a prankster thunder wave, but given how retarded the Maison sets are, there's a good chance they won't use it.

I don't believe it. You got really lucky. Even if you pull the most overpowered shit possible, the maison will start throwing focus sashes and things with sturdy constantly at you.

For a while i was doing great with just my shell smash focus sash cloyster until it started constantly throwing jolteons with QUICK ATTACK or things with sandstorm every single match.

I like that the game has the AI to beat you because it can be very impressive sometimes when it does. But I REALLY wish it didn't just build teams to counter yours and instead made them random or something because pretty soon you see the same shit every time and it's really boring.
