>>15858417That true. Because it's a kids game there are several aspects that are softened in order for a potentially grim world to be made acceptable and appealing to kids. It's made even worse by conservative parents who will readily sue nintendo for any trivial reason.
For example, in the first gen Pokemon were supposed to die after battles, but Gamefreak decided taht was too harsh a thing for children to endure, so they provided an alternative. Also, it would hard to explain why trainers would have no problem with you slaughtering their Pokemon. Overall, it would have really decreased the 'value' of Pokemon life and impacted the series as a whole.
Another example, the Japanese versions of Gen 4 games confirmed pokephilia (i.e. romantic/sexual relations between Pokemon and humans) but the English versions removed the references, knowing how shitty western people would get about it.
A final example, in a thread the other day I saw people discussing romance between a Hydreigon and a Sylveon, and some guy pointed out how Hydreigon are canonically mindless killing monsters and such a relationship would be impossible. In the end that guy tried way too hard to prove his point, and everyone else stayed in denial about what Hydreigon really as, so no side made sense.
Even though he went crazy over it, he was right. Hydreigon are vicious Pokemon that only kill and destroy. In the games they obey you, and in amie they smile and play, but only because the games ignore their own sense sometimes to remain G rated and for convenience.
