Not the RNG bullshit, but the item usage, asking you if you want to switch, etc.
It would actually make gyms a CHALLENGE, they're supposed to be.

That would be fine, also EV spread and decent moveset would be fine too, of course the first gym won't have full EVs or strong movesets.

As someone who never use items in the middle of a battle and who refuse to use more Pokemon than the gym leader or E4, I can honestly say that no, that's not enough to make them a challenge.

I fell like I can get away with giving Olympia a ardevoir since Diantha tehnically uses a MegaGardevoir and she has Hawlucha and Tyrantrum/Aurorus, signature pokemon fro Korrina and Grant
