I have no idea. My niece is low-functioning autistic. She can't talk. She doesn't even understand what video games are. All she does is shit herself and bite people. But I swear to god, she lit up when I bought her sister some Sonic games. Now my sister-in-law keeps her quiet by turning on Sonic let's plays.

Sega somehow stumbled upon the golden goose. Sonic just appeals to autists on a primal level.
