Fire/Dragon is a decent defensive typing. Mega Charizard X gains physical bulk. Will-o-Wisp cripples incoming attackers. Roost heals Flare Blitz and Stealth Rock damage.

How would it hold up?

Don't even bother with WoW and Roost. Use this instead,.

Earthquake or Thunderpunch depending on whether you hate Heatran or Azumarill more. Dragon Claw is preferred because fairies and Aegislash, but Outrage isn't too bad either if you know how to get rid of them.

Trying to stall with Charizard X is a bloody horrible idea. If you want something different, at least try a mixed set. Charizard-X is a sweeper.

I usually sweep after one DD save some strong priority moves, i.e. Talonflame Brave Bird & now unresisted Techloom life orb Mach Punch

I don't think it'd work too well. Fire/Dragon isn't that great of a defensive typing (no key resistances, weak to ground/rock which are common attacking types) and Xzard's defensive stats aren't too great. I know you want to break away from the DD mold but that's pretty much what Xzard was designed to do. It's kind of a one-trick pony.

i've seen a set with belly drum, flame charge, dragon claw and roost/earthquake. belly drum for att and flame charge for speed, which is pretty strong with the +6.

It's weak to Earthquake, so no.

You say you want to make a bulky set, but then you give it only 80 HP EVs and put the rest in your offenses. Oh man, that extra 20 HP makes such a huge difference! He's totally a tank now right!

Also you're using your Mega slot on a Pokemon that you're not even playing to its strengths. Just everything about this is so... bad.

The Speed is to outrun Lucario before it Mega Evolves. The HP is an afterthought.

I've been using this set on Showdown all day. It is an excellent answer to Charizard X's usual counters. You kids can write it off all you want for not being cookie cutter NuSalamence, but that kind of attitude is exactly why the metagame is still as stale as ever.

Except Skarmory has sturdy. WoW takes care of that and cripples Brave Bird. Aegislash cannot pull Swords Dance shenanigans. And it's a good idea to WoW Ferrothorn as this set doesn't have to DD Attack boost, considering Ferro's Iron Barbs and Rocky Helmet.

Not everything is as straightforward as you guys make it out to be. Try actually battling competitively before knocking every strategy that isn't hyper offense.

Have you considered swapping your HP and ATK investments? To the end of getting the most bulk you can, I mean. Between strong STAB moves, Tough Claws, and maybe a complementary nature, you're probably getting enough power to do what you want to do. If you're going to call it a "bulky" or try to "wall," don't half-ass it is what I'd say.

People wouldn't expect this set, so they would send in physical walls or things that resist charizard's STABs (he mentioned azumarill and tyranitar). By counters, he meant typical zard x counters, not counters to this "walling" set.

Charizard x has 111 base def it gives much more wiggle room to work with. In the land of the hyper offensive they will probably attempt to wall it out or go in for an out speed KO.

It might work because of the sheer off the wall wtf it can cause when it survives shit it shouldn't and counter accordingly.

In any case I'll try to clarify that the purpose of the set seems to be to try to absorb any attack it can with Charizard X's usable (but, of course, imperfect) defensive typing, its workable defense, Will-o-Wisp to foil physical attackers, and Roost for recovery. In addition, it appears to be designed to foil the opponent's counter-sweeping options that normally probably shouldn't fear Chrizard X (such as Azumarill or maybe Tyranitar) with the use of burns, some HP investment (which, IMO, needs some work), and the element of surprise. Coming up with counters doesn't discredit the idea, since everything has a counter.

This thing won't ever be Skarmory or anything, but the idea can work.
