>>15911037Well, there's still certain elements in GSC that were flat out contradicted by HG/SS, like Viridian Forest getting cut down, or Cerulean Cave collapsing. It was a bit of an exaggeration to state that GSC never happened, true, but the slightly modified version of events in HG/SS are the canonical ones, which means that some of the details that were exclusive to the originals are treated like they don't exist.
Come to think of it, though, couldn't the split timeline commonly assumed to have begun with Black and White have started with HG/SS? After all, they have significantly divergent plots relative to the legendaries, and no third version to reconcile them...

Plus there's that ex-Rocket's kid. If he was a preschooler, why didn't they use the preschooler sprite? That's a detail that's probably worth including for a clear callback to an earlier game that you know your fans will overanalyze to death.
Really, a 10-year gap between Gens 4.2 and 5 is more likely than a 3-year one.
