Destiny Knot takes 5 out of the 12 IVs available, and randomizes the last one. Aka, it doesn't matter which pokemon you give it too.

It's 5 total from both parents. If the Ferroseed has shit IVs, it'll mess up the child. You'd have to get really lucky to get HP, Def, and Sp.Def from that Ditto on your first try, or first few tries. That's why you constantly replace the Ferroseed in the daycare with new, stronger ones, and eventually the Ditto too once you have two 4 IV Ferroseed hatched.
