It's an honorary title. Once you stop being the current champion it doesn't invalidate the time you were champion.

A champion is someone who managed to defeat the current one.

For all we know, Blue defeated the previous champion only for you to beat him.

Blue is still a Champion in terms of honorary titles. Red is a reigning champion.

Pretty late to the thread but what if there was a system where as League Champion you'd have to beat X challenging trainers per week to remain Champ. If you lose or fail to fill the quota, your position is revoked.
