Having a good number of positive matchups, or having access to support/scouting moves. Because the lead matchups are blind, you need to make sure yours is versatile and can cover all rock-paper-scissors shit that goes on. Either that or you use it to set up shit like hazards and screens, or you have scouting moves like U-Turn and Volt Switch.

The best counter for Talonflame is Sneaky pebbles or just outspeed him and make sure the attack that will land will be a OHKO
