I never use my OU pokemon against my 9 year old brother. When we played, I used stuff like Pidgeot and teach him good strategy, like using Tailwind to set up slower sweepers like Gallade.

It was a lesson learned so i don't do that shit anymore because the game can suddenly decide to fuck you over.

I learned never to go easy on people, unless they're children. This isn't pokemon, but I was playing SSBM with some family members a few years ago, and I'm real into competitive melee. Real good at that shit, but anyway; I went easy on the family members so they didn't feel too bad when they lost, like they actually had a chance. Well, my uncle beat me and started gloating and I said I went easy on him. Then my family started going "oh yeah sure you did, sure you went easy." so we played one more and I said "I'm going to actually try this time." So I tried as hard as possible, and absolutely demolished him. Then I said "I told you I was going easy on you." They don't play that game with me anymore, but It doesn't matter, because I win.

All my friends are casual.

I usually set up a Stealth Rock, but I inevitably choke on purpose during a sweep, and let them take out one to two of my pokemon. I hide my power level.

If I'm playing my friend I won't go all out, because although he's aware what EVs are and knows that there are hidden stats akin to genes, he doesn't pay attention to them. I'll typically use my in-game teams against him.

I actually have two teams for this kind of thing, both completely identical in mons, but completely different under the surface- due to my usual opponent being my eight year old stepsister.
I keep my competetive team in the battle box, and keep silly shit for my "home team" I like to call it.

Like a screens and physical Gengar for home, or- and this took more time than breeding the competetive one, I swear- full-out zero EV Archeops with adamant and a special build.
She actually manages to kick the "Home team"'s butt, obviously.

Unfortunately, she got a bit cocky from it and picked a fight with one of her school friends, and got beat real bad.
Came home to my geek ass, tears in her eyes. saying that the guy beat her with a Garchomp and the like, and started calling her names.

So what we did was I go with her to the park after the schoolyard a few days later, and this kid brings his neckbeard older brother, and sis and I 6-0 the team of OU and a few Ubers with my comp team and her trio of cute mons.

The thing about games is, it's fun to play against people. But if you consistently mop the floor with them, they stop having fun, so they stop wanting to play, which means YOU stop having fun.

Let them win, because you get to have fun for longer that way. That's such a basic concept puppies fucking do it when they play with each other.

But if they want to gloat and be a poor sport, and just generally not show you the courtesy of "keeping it fun for everyone" that you're showing them, you destroy them with no mercy and make them regret ever trying to make the game about more than a good time.

Incidentally this is ALSO a concept so basic puppies fucking do it when they play with each other.

Anyone who gives some sort of "6-0 no mercy I only play to win" answer is probably developmentally disabled and incapable of healthy human interaction.

One of them really only plays pokemon to play with the cutes ones and is constantly on pokemon amie,so whenever I fight her I only use random pokemon I have sitting in my boxes. Against my casual friends who kinda know whats what I use my in-game teams that aren't IV/EV trained, but don't COMPLETELY suck.

I wish I had friends who were more around my skill level, the casual is killing me sometimes.

That's not necessarily true. If you can get enjoyment out of the sheer experience of playing the game, no matter how poorly, then sure. But for a lot of people, enjoyment is derived from challenge. Even if you lose on purpose to prolong the total number of matches, those matches aren't any fun because they don't challenge you at all.

I'm working on another team right now for battling one friend, since my current ones are a bit too strong for him, and it just isn't fun for either of us.

Against random people online though? No. They may seem like they suck, but they don't or they may seem like they know what they're doing when they have absolutely no idea. So it is really a toss up and not worth worrying about.

Anyway, to answer the thread question: Yes, I do try to go easy on someone who doesn't play the game as seriously as I do. I'm no fanatic, but I at least try and strategize - something my sister (8) doesn't do. I mean, she has Growl on her Charizard and uses it on my Dusknoir. I give her tips and tell her my pokemon's weaknesses so that she can use it against me and hopefully learn something, but she's just like any other kid - adding cool moves to a pokemon and pounding away at the game, OHKO'ing everything.

We're cool at the Battle Subway though. In Pokemon B/W of course.

Seed/protect would just stall. I don't have calcs on hand but I imagine that an adamant +4-6 outrage would still OHKO. I think Thunderwave would be the only actual deterrent to a Rayquazza.

Depends on investment, but a +6 outrage from max attack, life orb rayquaza only has a 75% chance to OHKO a max Defense Ferrothorn. After 6 turns of leech seed damage, Rayquaza will be at roughly 25% health if nothing else is damaging him.

If Nincada learns a move upon evolving into Ninjask, Shedinja will also know this move. This means that Shedinja can learn any of Ninjask's level up moves starting at level 20, but only the ones learned at the same level.

iirc, with Swift Swim, Magikarp is faster and he uses Bounce. He'll just keep abusing Bounce and apparently he gets lots of paralysis. Then he sends something else to finish it off or if 'Karp is on low HP, he uses flail. This is the same guy who uses quick claws and items like Black Glasses, Silk Scarf, Soft Sand etc.

Yeah, there are plenty of other slow Pokemon with a high Atk and low denfenses that could do this better than Magikarp, if you want to be real.
Vigoroth would probably work pretty well.

I would contend Cinccino does it better.

It's funny because most people think of Cinccino as being valuable for Skill Link only, but at 95Atk and 115Spd with absolutely atrocious bulk, Cinccino can make quite a showing with STAB Flail.

The main advantage Vigoroth has is access to recover; if he switches into hazards and can outspeed the enemy, he can recover to full health, restoring his sash's functionality.

Problem is the strategy is 100% reliant on you going FIRST if you want to KO more than one mon; Cinccino is faster than Vigoroth, meaning he is more likely to be able to sweep, he can switch into an attack and pull off a Flail, and if he comes in after a KO he can get off one Work Up to raise his Atk before Flailing (presuming the extra defense doesn't prevent him being hit to 1HP, which one would hope is not the case but run a +Spd -Def nature just in case I guess)
